Remember NASA said world won't end dec 21? Why are they calling a conference now for a "non event" asteroid??

Nobody has thoughts on this???isnt it odd?

This asteroid does seem to have snuck up on us unawares.

I really don't "get" why they would draw attention to
the in-bound near-earth 2012-DA14 at all! It seems to
me they'd be better served to just ignore--let whatever
ends up happening happen--than to give a big fancy
press conference and have egg on their faces when
there is an atmospheric explosion or a strike.

I'm running a thread on GLP tonight that someone was
generous enough to pin for me--It's got alot of
cross references to other GLP threads up tonight
like yours and mine, if you want to check it out!
I am thinking that this is going to be a very serious
couple of days--if not weeks--of earth change events
caused by this fly-by, since they've already confirmed
DA14 has 3 other companions in-bound with it!
We'll pray nothing happens and just have a none-event,
but it doesn't look good.

Hey, thanks. I've seen your thread and will stop by; great job btw very well put together. I dunno, with the da14 confirmed thread, dr. Astro's tireless shilling, and now a NASA press conference, nobody really knows what's in store. 2pm eastern seems about the most opportune time to drop a bombshell but still have enough time for certain press releases and "facts" to be compiled (or disclosed) later in the evening by time everyone gets home frm work and school. Guess we'll see later, eh?

The moon effects the earth, tides and such. This asteroid is going to pass closer than the moon, so even if it doesn't hit us it will have an effect on us.

Either way there is nothing we can do about it so why worry. What ever happens happens. Or doesn't happen.

They are probably holding a conference because, 1. Asteroids this big rarely get this close, and 2. It has a chance at taking out satellites.

I think NASA knows how people make something out of nothing like many already are and want to make sure EVERYONE knows this thing is not going to hit like many here think it will. just saying.
