This is the situation

Assad the dictator (who inherited power not earned it legit) - Totally fucked .... Kills anybody who does not agree with him & Rebels

Rebels - Totally fucked .... Kills Christians and Assad loyalists

Assad and all the rebel factions are fucked .... all of them

This is why the US, Russia and Turkey etc etc have not intervened. They just covertly assist a side in the hope it resolves itself.

If there is a viable alternative all sides would be in on it just to settle it.

The fact is there is no "Good" alternative to hand the power over to. None whatsoever.

Assad had one last chance to unite his country and that is to start a war with Israel using the Golan Heights as the catalyst.
