Frankly speaking, there were no Romania prior 1881. There were three different historical countries populated by Romanian people in various ratio: Moldavia, Wallachia and Transylvania. Whole Transylvania infrastructure and culture was established by Hungarians and Germans (Saxon colonists) so Romanians have no historical rights for this country.
