From the belly of the beast, Southern Illinois, I'm sincerely sorry for what my state has done to your country. There should be no forgiveness, however. I just want to say I'm sorry.

Re: United States of Chicago
You have to understand what Chicago area is. Everything west of 25th street is a pretty good place to live. Everything east of it is a hell hole. I use to attend Blackhawks games on a regular basis but now the area surrounding United Center is really bad. Make a wrong turn and you can be on serious trouble.

I live in the western suburbs, maybe 20 miles from downtown and life here is pretty good. I'm allowed to have my guns, the schools are great, and crime is low. I also pay $15,000 a year in property tax which is high but you get what you pay for. The biggest property tax contributor in my town is McDonald's Corp. Hate their food but I love their $$$$$.

The cops are good and very wuick to respond if something happens. I only wonder when we will eventually be infiltrated by criminals looking for a new area to score.
 Quoting: The Dudester

I figure the further we sink, the more it spreads. Your situation is similar to most of metropolitan America I think. My suburban N.TX city is great and the police say most of the crime occurs along our borders with Dallas, especially near Section 8 housing. Whodathunk?

Negroes coming up from the south side where there's slim pickin's to Michigan Ave, Wrigleyville, to beat up/rob Caucasions in the 'good' neighborhoods. Only gettin' better.
And God forbid you're a retailer open on MLK Day when all the negro kids are out of school.
According to police blogs the crime rate should come down now that rahm has redefined violent crime and murder reporting. Instead of shooting/murder- natural death, bleeding, 1/4 inch hole in torso. :) We need the tourists...

It's also a sanctuary city.
Cities in the United States began designating themselves as sanctuary cities during the 1980s.[1] The policy was first initiated in 1979 in Los Angeles, to prevent police from inquiring about the immigration status of arrestees. The internal policy, "Special Order 40," states: "Officers shall not initiate police action with the objective of discovering the alien status of a person. Officers shall not arrest nor book persons for violation of title 8, section 1325 of the United States Immigration code (Illegal Entry)."[2] Some of the 31 American cities are Washington, D.C.; New York City (see also Illegal immigration in New York City); Jersey City; Los Angeles; San Francisco; Santa Ana; San Diego; San Jose; Oakland; Salt Lake City; El Paso; Houston; Detroit; Chicago; Minneapolis; Miami; Denver; Baltimore; Seattle; Portland, Oregon; New Haven; Somerville; Cambridge; Portland, Maine; and Tulsa.

Al Qaeda could be infiltrating these cities right now, but the Democrats gave them sanctuary.

I knew a Chicago guy awhile back, around the mid-eighties..
He was the LD in a production I was in.
We both liked to talk hockey..drink a few beers.

When the production was in its final week,
he hit me up for 300 bucks..
said he needed to send some money to his Mom right away.
He was supposed to pay me back as soon as he got
back to Chicago.

I never saw or heard from him again..

KK you sunuvabitch... I haven't forgotten about it.

Very informative post, OP. 5*

Out of curiosity, what are the governors in prison for? What's the possibility of jackson going to prison? What did he get caught for?
 Quoting: Renegade (Me too)

George Ryan:

Ryan's political career was marred by a scandal involving the illegal sale of government licenses, contracts and leases by state employees during his prior service as Secretary of State; in the wake of numerous convictions of former aides, he chose not to run for reelection in 2002. All told, seventy-nine former state officials, lobbyists, and others have been since charged in the investigation, and at least 76 have been convicted.

The corruption scandal that led to Ryan's downfall began over a decade earlier as a federal investigation into a deadly crash in Wisconsin that killed six children of Rev. Duane "Scott" Willis and his wife, Janet. The investigation revealed a scheme inside Ryan's secretary of state's office in which unqualified truck drivers obtained licenses through bribes. As the AP wrote: "The probe expanded over the next eight years into a wide-ranging corruption investigation that eventually reached Ryan in the governor's office."

"The goal of the 'liberals'—as it emerges from the record of the past decades—was to smuggle this country into welfare statism by means of single, concrete, specific measures, enlarging the power of the government a step at a time, never permitting these steps to be summed up into principles, never permitting their direction to be identified or the basic issue to be named. Thus statism was to come, not by vote or by violence, but by slow rot..."
