He points out had laws prohibiting texting and driving been passed 15 years ago, texting and driving would not be the problem it is today. "Soon you will be able to park your own drone over someone's private property and perform indiscriminate surveillance all day long," he said. Gooden's bill would also prohibit federal law enforcement or federal officials from flying drones over Texas to spy on random citizens. Only individuals who are suspected with reasonable cause could be the target of drone surveillance, and only with a warrant issued by a judge of an open and public court. 2FishOn |

The lawmakers are trying to get ahead of the slippery slope. For once that are taking an approach that is not simply, and impotently, reactionary. Sounds like you get tossed in jail if you put your gopro on your rc helicopter or airplane - which tons of rc enthusiasts are currently doing. The law needs to be written better. Sounds far too ambiguous. As a civilian you should be able to operate a "drone". The government (state or federal) should NOT BE ABLE to operate one on American soil because it is clear that they immediately violate the right to privacy. Civilians who use drones to "peeping Tom" the neighbors should be fined for violating their privacy. The way rc vehicles with cameras are used by civilians currently is fine - most use them in public spaces so there is no issue. The Feds or state police would be outfitting the things with thermal sensors in addition to trying to peek inside of people's homes. Screw them. Power to the people. |
