Re: Manhunt for former LA Police Officer
As a survivalist I'm pretty ceartin that if he is in fact on Big Bear he is dead. There is no way he would be able to survive under cover this long evading police. It would be hard enough to do in the current weather conditions trying to be found!

With this being said, if he is as trained as they claim he is the last thing he would do is go into Big Bear and decrease his chances of survival. The only way I feel he is on that mountain or alive is if he had areas on the mountain that were ready ahead of time. Even then at this point he would require fire ( if outside ) to survive.

IMO he is either dead on Big Bear or was never on Big Bear for an extended period of time after the truck was burnt up.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9581395

Yeah, it's really cold up there. On the scanner page chatter said it was 2 degrees early this am.

IIRC that first night after his burned out truck was found the storm moved in and they were not able to search with the flir as good as they would of liked.

So how long before all heat leaves a body? Could be frozen anywhere or by luck or plan made it the hell out of there soon after ditching the truck.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5141990

MANY old silver mines on Big Bear...FLIR would be useless, if he took shelter in one of them!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21553450

I was wondering about that. No need for a tin foil suit with those around...lol. Thank you.

Re: Manhunt for former LA Police Officer
just adding some info:

the first shootout between Dorner and police, in Corona,
with the police car involved pictured here
[link to blogs.mydesert.com]

happened here:
[link to maps.google.com]

a closer image of that car-
[link to media.redding.com]

and from the front:
[link to www.trbimg.com]

Dorner was being followed, got off the interstate, stopped his truck and fired into the front of this police car, allowing himself to get away.

Then continuing a few miles on further down this road is where he got ino the second shootout with Riverside police, killing one of them at this intersection:
[link to maps.google.com]

So far the only targeted killing it is believed that he committed is that of Quan and Lawrence, the daughter of an LAPD officer and her fiance on top of a parking deck in Irvine, Ca. So he hasnt killed any actual LAPD yet.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Dorner's truck is parked in front of his Las Vegas house in this google streetview shot:

[link to maps.google.com]

and, his truck now:
[link to pbs.twimg.com]

Here is a listing for his LV house that I found:
[link to www.trulia.com]

Surveillance video shows man believed to be Dorner throwing items into trash bin in National City
Video, which was recorded Monday, obtained by CNN
[link to www.10news.com]

a good timeline thats being updated:
[link to projects.scpr.org]

from looking at the shell casings location in this pic:
[link to www.trbimg.com]

it can be deduced that Dorner (or whoever) was standing here, center of pic:
[link to maps.google.com]
when he fired at that police car. he was just on the other side of the 'L' in 'SIGNAL' on the roadway, and just near or inside the curved white line. He was probably firing using the front of his truck as cover/conceilment.

details like this are interesting to me. Maybe also to some of you as well.

There are at least 3 cameras overlooking that intersection where that first police shootout happened:

Camera 1 overlooking the first police shootout location >

[link to maps.google.com]
looking down to where the police car would be

Camera 2 >

[link to maps.google.com]
looking back towards where Dorner was shooting from

Camera 3>

[link to maps.google.com]
looking down at both the police car and truck from the side

So this shootout should have been well caught on cam. If you look up and down the street, there are more cameras both directions.

These videos need to be released soon.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33968321

Every police car has a video camera. Surely, they would have run it on Dorner if he was shooting at police cars. Where's the footage?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23657849

Why are we supposed to think that Dorner shot the police car? Because YOU said so?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34107313

Where does my comment say or elude that I said that I believe Dorner is guilty of shooting the police? iamwith

Still don't think it has anything to do with this guy.. gut instinct.

there are a whole lotta people on both sides right now that are going to be grasping at anything.. some want it to end, others want it to continue.

This guy was NOT the type to be able to roll out in the middle of a blizzard in the mountains and be sippin hot totties in a hooch a few hours later. Regardless of what those who have not been there think. he just wasn't.

He is not the survivalist many have tried to make him. He has made plenty of mistakes.. and I believe his last one was trudging off through the woods in a snow storm.

i do not think there was anyone there or another vehicle to help him.

My opinion of course, based on my extensive experience in the realm of outdoor survival in pretty much all environments.

As far as what i have offered.

I have my own internet forum to administer so i cannot stay here all the time.

Posting another resourse works on ipad too so can keep it playing in another tab

[link to venice311.org]

To get our LAPD Scanner feed and Venice area tweets directly to your phone as text messages, type the text message follow venice311 to 40404 . You may need to sign up for twitter, but that does not require you to ever send a tweet. We twitter 24 hrs. You can also start and stop the twitter feed at anytime by typing STOP or START to 40404.
Why We Provide A Scanner Feed:
Venice 311 provides a twitter feed for LAPD Scanner calls ( click to listed live on the web ) in the Venice area. As long-time residents and business owners we have come to know that communication and cooperation is the only environment that brings improvements to our community. We have received tremendous positive feedback, and our followers have quickly grown over 1000 in just a few weeks. Many had no idea the types of crimes that were happening in Venice Beach, or how they could help. Eyes are everything! Many of our twitter messages are for incidents that the public may actually assist on, for instance looking for a hit and run driver or if a burglary suspect has fled a specific area, in which case we provide the 1-877-ASK-LAPD number to CALL if you are able to witness or assist. We advise everyone not to become directly involved in any incident, but to call if you witness anything.

Not really sure why it was too dangerous before but is okay now. any thoughts on that ?

Re: Manhunt for former LA Police Officer
They have now decided to release the name of the "slain" officer.

Not really sure why it was too dangerous before but is okay now. any thoughts on that ?

Here is the link [link to www.pe.com] and of course as mentioned last night he has a 1 million dollar bounty on his head. And now his ex girl friend says she fears for her life ... (yeah probably from the cops)

.
 Quoting: Ahatmose

According to one report, the name of the slain officer was withheld for fear Dorner would target his family.

In regard his girl friend, apparently she can't read. Dorner's targets have been explicitly named in his manifesto and she is not one of them.
