The thing is, as long as he's not killing anyone else, this isn't HUGE news. It's just cops on a wild goose chase. If he actually kills more cops, or anyone else, then things get more serious, but until then...
Quoting: Lime Flavoured Redux I think he is waiting for nightfall to go to work again. Possibly, I make it what, nearly 5pm in LA? So it'll be getting dark soon. If he is on the run and has no intention of killing any more, then this will end eventually, probably with his suicide. Failing that, who knows. One issue has got to be the worry that random people might take his side and try to impede the LAPD. Now, there's no evidence of that at the moment, but it's not impossible that someone in LA decides to "help" this guy.
