OP, I've moved many times in my life and one of the fastest ways to meet people and build relationships and a fun life is to recognize what interests I have and go to gatherings or a class on it. For example, I have an interest in metaphysics so I checked out the local metaphysical book store to find a local class of interest and sure enough there were people I could relate to. It could be exercise, yoga, astronomy, drum or flute circle. Any thing you could be interested in, there's a group getting together somewhere. You automatically have something in common and it's fun learning.
