Lol. First of all, Greece would never allow oil/natural gas exploration on a large scale. Are you kidding? They won't even allow SCUBA diving. Lol. Which could generate income via tourism. In addition to that, the bureacracy in place would make any project such as the one suggested too lengthy and cost prohibitive. Greece is simply not business friendly. Way too short sighted. Even companies that have Greek origins such as Fage the Greek yogurt maker , have moved their headquarters out of the country.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33858908

Yep, Greece is not as business friendly as other countries, for the Norway thing i said it's a conspiracy and not a fact, but drilling for resources will take place at some point here in Greece in the next decade or so, whether we like it or not, it's not in Greece's hand to make this decision, international corporations/markets will make this decision for us unfortunately, not a choice thingy. Greek govt doesn't make the decisions for Greek matters for some time already.
 Quoting: insertfunnyusername

Won't happen. Keep in mind that Greece is having difficulties because of decisions they themselves made to begin with. Their own actions started and got them into this. They are also still making their own decisions, ridiculous to play the blame game, pass the buck and lay the whole mess in someone else's lap. No one other than Greece is making decisions for Greece.

We'll see if it happens or not, i'm not gonna argue on that. I'm not trying to pass the buck or the mess to anyone, this is and will be a big lesson for most of the Greeks and i'm completely aware of our shortcomings, i'm also completely aware of where our fair share of the blame stops and where the fair share of market manipulation/speculation and usury starts, something that you're not aware of as it seems, it usually takes 2 to tango you know. Last part of your post is plain BS, Greece isn't making her own decisions for at least 2 years now with troika/memorandums, there isn't the same amount of national sovereignty anymore, i think that's quite clear to all the citizens of this country, have no idea how you reached to this claim of yours.

One of the world's richest sovereign wealth funds. Norwegians make more money from profits on Stadtoil's small tar sands projects, than the government of Alberta gets from oil royalties provincewide...

Norwegians make more in annual profits from their sovereign wealth fund, than the total asset value of Alberta's sovereign wealth fund...

Distraction operations? They sure are raising a big fuss. Waving "look here", from a Country that nothing ever happens in, mostly.

Hmmm.

Either it is a distraction, from something else in the World, or something MAJOR really is going on.

Be vigilant.

 Quoting: insertfunnyusername

You need to get in touch with reality. Using pat phrases like "it takes two to tango" is complete BS. There is such a thing as one party screwing the other in agreements. Greece has consistently made agreements and not honored them. They have consistently played games, reneged on agreements and when all else fails tries to play stupid. If you still think that Greece is not making it's own decisions with troika/memorandums you're deluded. That's complete BS too. Greece has many options ,one of which is pulling out of the EU and the euro. Deciciding not to do that or explore the other options available is called a DECISION. The fact of the matter is that despite troika etc. this route is far more profitable for Greece , and bonus Greece still gets to cry "victim". Greece refuses to do anything to help itself. They want others to solve the problem while they take siesta and keep their shops closed in the afternoons most of the time. What's considered less than part time work in other countries is full time work in Greece. Yet they want the same pay, benefits and waaaaaaaay earlier retirement. You're joking right? Have you looked at the numbers? The country couldn't run cost efficiently on the pensions alone. That's enough to put them in the negative. You have situations where women in certain instances can inherit their fathers pensions. You have situations where women are entitled to early retirement at age 50 if they have a child under the age of 11. That's INSANITY. If you need to retire because you have a child you should'nt be having that child. I urge you add up the numbers. The paltry amounts paid in out of pay per month, the age of retirement and the approximate age of death. The numbers on that alone don't work. Add the inanity of excesses such as divorced or widowed women inheriting a fathers pension. Add to that all the other crazy excesses and it's just a huge BLACK HOLE. Don't even start on the useless bloated system of government employees , supergiant black hole there. Really ? To pay a simple car registration down at eforia you need 3 employees ? Two to look at it an one to take the payment? That was one of the FUNNIEST things I ever saw in my life. Especially since the first employee had the same register in front of her as the third one did. Guess what. The first one can accept and process the payment. You don't need people standing on three lines for absolutely no reason. The first clerk could easily do the job plus have people out of there faster. When teams came in from Germany to HELP with effective cost cutting measures Greece wanted nothing to do with any advice given. Rather than look at effective solutions and resolutions Greece just wants to keep those bailout funds coming. They made agreements to accept a certain amount of immigrants into the country. They reneged on those agreements too. They viciously and violently physically attack and brutalize these people. They also MERCILESSLY exploit them. You want to bring up usury LOL. These immigrants are dragged out to the middle of nowhere to work fields. They have no way out of there. They are then paid less slave wages. The wages they do make they have to pay back to the farmer or landowner for sleeping in the fields (they have no transportation to leave) food and water. The water alone gets for 2 and sometimes 3 euros. These people are making less than 20 euros a day. Most wind up indebted so they can't leave until the season is over. How convenient for the landowner. Many are then charged falsely with theft on top of being brutalized and robbed.

What followed would end up symbolising how migrants have become among the biggest and most defenceless victims of Greece's economic crisis, facing racist attacks, police apathy and a system that punishes them rather than their assailants.

The baker and two others fastened an 8-metre long metal chain around Taleb's neck with a lock and dragged him to a stable, he said, where another man joined them. There they tied him to a chair, tightened the noose and punched him while he drifted in and out of consciousness, he said.

The men drank beer - which they also forced into Taleb's mouth - and taunted him for being a Muslim, he said.

"They dragged me around like a dog,» said Taleb, recounting the attack from a mattress on the floor of his dingy apartment tucked away amid Salamina's low-roofed houses and tavernas.

"I thought this was the end for me. I kept fainting, and every time I fainted they would hit me with rods to wake me up."

After 18 hours, Taleb managed to escape when his captors left to reopen the bakery. But his nightmare was not over.

Found at dawn under a tree with the heavy chain still around his neck and his face swollen beyond recognition, Taleb was initially taken to a hospital and given first aid.

If you want to ensure a better future for Greece take action not bailout funds. Open up for business. Forget the naps. Give up the summer vacations. Go to work. Make the country more business friendly. Capitalize on the biggest assets you have. Location. Stop firebombing everything, so that people will want to visit. When and if they do be nice. You are one of the most unfriendly places to visit. People go to restaurants and wind up either getting yelled at or have to listen to someone else getting yelled at. Not a fun atmosphere either way. Stop stealing from people. If a tourists gets robbed or scammed trust me he gripes about it . When others hear about it they are hesitant to visit. Become human. Stop brutalizing the immigrants. There fear I see on these poor people's faces....again to a good atmosphere for tourists. You could also increase your olive oil exports if you would stop adulterating the olive oil. Greece has many options available that would help stimulate the economy and enable self sufficiency. The problem is sheer laziness and apathy.

You think that Greece can make the decision to leave EU/euro by her own and you're calling me deluded? Lmao, everyone knows that Greece should have gone bankrupt 3 years ago, even Merkel's advisers said that it would be the best for everyone involved, but guess what, didn't happen, because Greece can't take this decisions by her own, seriously, can't/won't happen, it's naive to think that we can, only one thing is for certain, we can't keep up with the euro no matter how much austerity and budget cuts, we need a hard default, which is obviously not in our hands to decide.

As i said i know many things are wrong with the system here, it's so fucked up that it's not fixable anymore, we need a total reset on public and politician level and i agree with many things you say about public spending/corruption, i won't agree with the lazy/siesta propaganda BS part though, this doesn't represent the whole population and you know it, the majority of the population is hard working people here and i'm quite sure about that.

Abuse of immigrants and GD actions are pathetic and i personally disagree completely with these things, this is not the way to solve this, but you're overstating things quite a bit by presenting the whole Greek population as racist thugs and abusers don't ya think?

And btw, don't overdo it with the victimization of the immigrants, the only thing i know is that 45 Greeks mostly elderly died by illegals in 2012 in various criminal activities of theirs and nobody said a thing in the MSM, and when the first immigrant died by some racist wackos just some weeks back it was all over the news for a week with protests and such, i won't even go to increased rape cases, or that 65-70% of the criminals in prisons are immigrants, illegal immigration costs Greece 10BN a year for many years in a row now, these are facts. I'm not telling you all these to justify these horrible actions, i'm telling you these things for you to understand maybe why a part of the people are angry with the illegals situation here. We can't fucking legalize you all with our current financial woes now can we? You can understand this now don't you? Greeks won't have to eat in a year or so, you can understand that we can't legalize the bunch of you? We are talking about almost 1 million illegals in a country of 10, that's besides the 800 thousand legal ones, they're so many that we don't have space to detain them anymore lmao. It was fun when it was raining money here, but this is not the case anymore, we need to regroup and be left alone, sorry to blow your multi-culti utopia, but it is what it is.

We're definitely not one of the most unfriendly places to visit lmao, sorry that you had such an experience, must be you tbh, this isn't the norm for sure, but yeah ask a foreigner/tourist about it and not me.

here in europe, we can demonstrate and scream all we want, but it wont acomplish anything.. neither will voting, cause the central bank, which they control, pays the politicians.. so we're screwed, i see no way out here

Stating facts about the country and it's people that can easily be verified by anyone doing a quick google search. Most are well aware of these facts anyway. At no point in time however did I state that I had taken a position either for, or against Greece. It's also not mandatory to take a position either for or against Greece to discuss the country, it's current issues and it's people. I am well aware of the thread subject matter and was not the one who initially brought Greece into the conversation. Others did that. In response I posted my thoughts and opinions. Stating that someone "being against Greece" shows "they don't know shit about people living there" is ignorant. One does not have to "be for Greece" to have knowledge. A stance does not negate knowledge.

BS to Everything you said.. Really don't want to hijack this thread, it's a bit rude so will no longer post in response to Greece issues. Wasn't referring to a visit I had. It sure is the norm ask any Greek/American , most will be honest about the fact that they are well aware of the rudeness and have encountered it when visiting.
As far as the immigrants, stop downplaying it and lying through your teeth. You people are brutal to them. Don't forget you get what you put out in this world. Try being nice.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 10784253

for now, you can get semi auto rifles etc but it must be registered

which means no revolution here, cause they'll call them in if that happens

and too few own them.. no point even thinking about it

but they might be useful during a period of anarchy here.. if we see a complete meltdown

Just had to post one more thing. I noticed that both posters who were Greek cursed in their posts. I guess being verbally abusive goes hand in hand with how physically abusive you people are. Another thing, you people AGREED to accept these immigrants into the country in order to be ale to be a part of the EU. If you could not afford to do so you should not have accepted the agreement. You are trying to justify terrible acts perpetrated against human beings or God's sake. They are already there legally . Out of over 6000 rounded up only 1000-1600 were found not to have their documentation in order. After the arrests many of those were also able to verify their documentation. As for crime. Face it. It's all Greeks committing the crimes taking advantage of the fact that they can try and lay the blame on immigrants. One has only to watch the nightly news to verify that. Aside from the fact that you have nothing better to do than lounge out on your balconies till all hours of the night. When you people see an immigrant you spread it the news like wildfire. They're not getting anywhere near you lol.

BS to you too. You're right about one thing only, that we hijacked the thread too much. 'You' should ask and Greek/American, i personally know but you do the poll just to make sure. And i'm not downplaying the issue btw, we have serious problem with immigrants here that leads even to a nasty polarization of our society and we've seen nothing yet imo, it's evident by the rise of GD and far right, which off course are complete thugs and nothing more than that, but i won't play the leftie/liberal tune "immigrants are our brothers" either. Criminality rate speaks by itself, there isn't a stray dog in Athens left anymore, they've eaten them all ffs, they even kidnap dogs from people's backyards now, lol. I won't play your game of victimizing only one side of the argument, Greek society is going through one of the biggest crisis of this century, would be an unprecedented miracle if multi-culti was still working perfectly.

Last one for me too. Come visit Greece along with all the Greek/Americans who come every year and the tourists who come every year and decided to have houses here and you will find out if we are rude etc etc. Unless you are rude of course then i cant foretell the reactions.
