Rumor has it Jodie's kids are actually Mel's from a clinical insemination he had donated to, which is why she had publically thanked him that night. Its possible he displayed some emotional fear that Jodi was skirting the fringes of the matter that could inadvertently reveal the truth.

Someone suggested James Woods in the other thread, seems a lot more plausible that Gibson. James Woods is a certified genius, so this makes much more sense. JW is also a far better actor than Mel.
