I doubt they took the kids on speculation alone. Usually it takes something major. My friend is a foster parent and us familiar with the system.

Where is the mother in all this?

In Florida, St. Augustine, my daughter went to visit her friend a couple blocks away, and the friend told her that Child Services said that if she didnot give up her baby girl, they were going to take her son, who was older. Now that is "major"?!.

Another mother had her children taken away because the father wouldnot learn sign language, even though the mother and everyone else in the family could do sign language.- and that is "major"!?

I know there are major wtfs in the system. It's a broken system. But if you know your rights you can prevent them from wrongfully taking the kids. CPS workers say crazy stuff to try to get the parent to sign papers giving up certain rights and letting the caseworker remove the child from the home. They need a court order to MAKE you do anything. And then once the child is in the system it's hard to get them out. My friend was fostering a child for 3 years before they got reunited with their birth parents.

I only have experience in FL. I knew a mother who was medically neglecting her kid by not getting his strep throat treated. I finally took her kid to the doctor for her, and called CPS about it (other stuff was going on too). They didn't do anything after a preliminary investigation. Not even parenting classes.

All of the cases my friend has dealt with have been physical/sexual abuse, born on drugs, and neglected.
