I don't understand how they say it is a fifth of an inch...it seems like it is a lot bigger than that based on the surrounding rock formations...

That's a double headed hammer.
It either got left on the set, if the Mars thing is fake,
or is on Mars, left by some construction worker.

Notice they can see a dime's mint date in your pocket from outer space 13,000 miles away in HD, but they cant focus on something that is literally 20 feet away.

You have been scammed again and again and again and again and again !

Yes, because they can fit an optics system the size of a space satellite onto that tiny head of the rover.. Oh yea!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 904314

Actually that had NOTHING to do with it. thwak
Stop talking out your ass.
...it had to do with technology at the time of development....in 2004.

Apparently it has a shitty 2 MegaPixel cam on it.
An iPhone has more than that. grnrolleyes

Re: Curiosity finds a mystery object on Mars
Sometime we like to share certain things we've known because it really doesn't matter if you know or not. It cahnges nothing.

In most pictures from mars you will see rocks strewn everywhere. That's because many millions of years ago there was a great cosmic battle which almost destroyed mars completely. A great war in the heavens... a Biblical war! He was cast out and did battle against those who remained in the heavens!

Long story short, because the earth was uninhabited at that time, it was spared. That is when your ancestors were brought here. Your home is actually mars, and there are still some of your brothers and sisters there.

There are actually bases there from earth since the 70's.

Think tower of babylon.

Face of mars was proven to be an illusion several years ago.

Hoagland even gave up on that "theory" if you want to call it that.

MRO and MGS have both taken higher resolution images of the "face". Turns out it's nothing like face, at all.

Re: Curiosity finds a mystery object on Mars
What are the chances that that thing was formed by natural causes. Then what are the chances of that tin can coming accross it by accident.
 Quoting: Ozi dude 33907544

It is a hematite cluster. Same thing the trillions of Martian "Blueberries" are made of (you can sometimes find those stuck together too). The rover can't have gone far from where it's shown bazillions of those things.

So to answer your question about "what are the chances" of it being formed by natural causes, I'm going to go with "probably right about 100%".

Your mileage may vary.

Re: Curiosity finds a mystery object on Mars
it is not likely natural i have looked at it for an hour

is silver metallic and symmetrical

looks like the backside of a euro-cabinet hinge with two silver bottlecaps as "ears" then on the front are two matching small black triangular "eyes"

maybe even seeing a corner of a cube forming the base protruding nearest the rock

i have a 10x brightness monitor

more likely we will find junk or trash than life on mars

much conjecture small fact
the only thing you can say for sure is "insufficient data"
 Quoting: Kirk

I can also say that this appears in Atlantic, which is marketed to upper-middle class intellectuals, rather than in tabloids.

That says something about the marketing direction of this sort of information. It is no longer for the fringe only. If it goes well, expect to see more of it.
