Very clever, mate. Too bad I must let you in on the real purpose of the blackout:

It was an illuminati symbol of the destruction of the world's population where 2/3 of the population dies (hence, 2/3 of the lights in the stadium went out.) Thirty-four minutes (34) is numerically 33+1 which represents the completion of the 33 masonic steps and then we begin anew with 1...the New World Order.

I think MAYBE half the lights went off to symbolize the dividing of the population before the war begins. It could be the divide over gun control or could be race or class or party affiliation etc...
