filled with floats of smiling children
Cheerleaders dazzling crowds
At home town games
Flags of America waving,
Serenely displayed
On quiet porches
And on
Our Veterans graves
Laughter in the neighborhood
For a summer block party
Music playing softly
during a Sunday morning breakfast
The local paper rustling
while Moms and Dads
Chatted eagerly
About all the news
Of their very
Own community

Small pleasures in Small Town America

May they rest in peace.

And that is what happened. There are
no small town communities anymore/
They all got swallowed up by taxes and gluttonous spending,
in trying to make their towns into cities.
