Greece

In 2007, 55% of Greek households lived in flats, 35% in detached houses, and 10% in semi-detached or terraced houses. 73% of households owned their own homes, 21% rented their accommodation, and 6% lived in free accommodation.

Most own two or more homes ,the second being a summer home either in their village or island their island of descent. Very FEW have rent or mortgage obligations. Very few of the 21% who do not own their homes are actually of Greek descent. Most also have hired household help. Even if they are living in a small flat. Household chores ? If they don't have someone coming in on a daily basis , it will be weekly monthly or semi annually.
In 1986 legal and unauthorized immigrants totaled approximately 90,000. A study from the mmo.gr Mediterranean Migration Observatory maintains that the 2001 census recorded 762,191 persons residing in Greece without Greek citizenship, constituting around 7% of total population. Of the non-citizen residents, 48,560 were EU or European Free Trade Association nationals and 17,426 were Cypriots with privileged status. The majority come from Eastern European countries: Albania (56%), Bulgaria (5%) and Romania (3%), while migrants from the former Soviet Union (Georgia, Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, etc.) comprise 10% of the total.[141] The greatest cluster of non-EU immigrant population are the larger urban centers, especially the Municipality of Athens, with 132,000 immigrants comprising 17% of the local population, and then Thessaloniki, with 27,000 immigrants reaching 7% of the local population. There is also a considerable number of co-ethnics that came from the Greek communities of Albania and the former Soviet Union.[140]

Greek workers get at least one month of paid vacation every year. More often than not it's two full months spent at their summer homes.

Obesity in Greece is a growing health concern with health officials stating that it is one of the leading causes of preventable deaths in Greece. According to Forbes, Greece ranks 16 on a 2007 list of fattest countries with a percentage of 68.5% of its citizens with an unhealthy weight. This may be a surprise to most individuals because in the past Mediterranean countries like Greece were known to live a pretty healthy lifestyle.

Everything you are shown about hardships in Greece is not true for the majority of the population. If you check out some videos of them protesting on CNN, you'll notice most are overweight. Most are paid to show up at protests and events like the one this thread by various political parties. They get paid around 60 euros a day just to show up. It's all one big scam. Most only work till 1:30 or 2:30 in the afternoon. Then siesta. Which makes you think we'll they go back to work after that right? Guess again . Nope. Those working in the public sector are done for the day before siesta. After that only shops will open up for a couple of hours and only on certain days . Not every day, every other day . Closed on Sundays of course. Public sector (government employees) workers get both Satuday and Sunday off of course. Banks are only open 5 days a week and close at 2:30 also.
