had my best friend leave me behind without a word when i told him i had my doubts.

as in : next day, not even a phone call. some small talk one day 4 years later, and some more a few years after that and that was it.

happened when i was 21. that age when your best friend is supposed to be a constant companion.

it pretty much scared the piss out of me for the first 30 years of my life because i was convinced god was going to burn me for all eternity for being sexually active while single

then i had a "spiritual" experience and i escaped the brainwash of religion

i don't know if there is an afterlife or not, but i do know the god of the bible is a lie

Then that isn't religions fault. He wasn't forced. In fact, he could have stayed to help. If he/she cared that much, they would have at least tried to remove those doubts.

@OP, remove the word "negative" and behold the blessings that you will see. As far as I go, it hasn't been negative. If Father didn't come to me when He did, I'd either be dead or somewhere selling my soul for money.
It's a scary situation to think about.

That said, I never sought after God, nor thought about Him. I never had a yearning to do it at that. He called me, He spoke and I answered.

Religion in of itself isn't "dangerous", it's the people. This affects every belief system, including atheism. People are old enough to know right or wrong. Even atheists have morals.

1 Timothy 3:16 KJV
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

Isaiah 9:6 KJV
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

7) Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8) So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9) But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Do you realize what has happened by ignoring that? Children in broken families, parents cheating on each other, children bring brought up by people who didn't plan to have them, abortion and the rest. This world needs order, which is why the elite want a NEW world order. If it's new, then that means the OLD order wasn't theirs, so whose is it? Who are they taking it from and why?

Why are our children being bombarded by atheist propaganda in schools? Bingo, the elite own the schools. 7 hour brainwashing sessions, 5 days a week. I think that right there does it.

Re: So, how has religion had a severe negative impact on YOUR life?
I allowed myself to feel monkey-anger feelings towards religions such as Christianity, therefore sinking myself into a cease-pool of taint and negativity which necessarily affected me in negative ways in a viscous spiral.

That is how religion had a negative impact on my life.

My usual login is Neon Pope. Just to humorize the tragitity I have suffered at the hands of those doing "Gods Will..." I feel I must post....

So where to begin??? all during my childhood I was involved in those so called "born again" religious cults where they would nearly drown you and proclaim you "saved"!
I was hardly anything but, soon after being "saved" I would begin to question the pastors with simple common sense questions and before you know it, Bamn, mama is finding a new church.... this happened throughout all the mainstream religious cults known to man. Born again, Jehovah's, Cathloc, and god only knows what other friggin cults...

Now I know I sound like a troll, but this is a true honest experience.
I have been from one religion to another and not one has been able to answer my simple childhood logical questions.

I will log in as neon pope asap. As its name speaks towards my humorous take on religion.

I am not a troll or a shill please respond with questions and I will do my best to answer. This post caught me off guard as I am half drunk atm. Just had to post, could not help myself.

Firstly, the question was; "How has religion had a severe negative impact on YOU personally?"

Secondly, to assert or even insinuate that religion is solely responsible for war is laughable. What of the Mongols? Who left 40 Million dead in their wake. No religion. What of Communist Cuba? Communist Russia? Communist Vietnam? Japan? North Korea? What of the big, bad Adolf Hitler who states numerous times in his book and biography; "Mein Kampf" that the single largest driving force behind his thoughts and views was the Theory of Evolution, not religion?

You are blaming human nature and acts based in human nature, greed and pride on religion. Those same acts were committed numerous times before and after with no religion involved whatsoever. Humans go to war, hate, kill and destroy under any banner you can imagine. Not just religion.

So, please read the question again and answer the question. You did not live hundreds of years ago and you are not being opressed.

I believe you and I've experienced that, but Father let me know quick that ALL denominations are satanic. Ever wonder why we grow up being told that if we don't go yo church, we'll burn? Wonder why the Bible doesn't say jack SQUAT about attending church? Again, it's the people and unfortunately people rather hear the crap coming from a guy in a three piece suit, rather than actually reading the Word.

Re: So, how has religion had a severe negative impact on YOUR life?
when i was a boy there were two women who pushed me too hard with religion . an aunt and a friend of my mother.

any time i opened my mouth, one of them would try to "correct" my thinking, even if what i said had nothing remotely to do with god.

but of course they did not practice the dogma they were so intent on foisting on me.....sound familiar?

anyway, i still get defensive, apprehensive, and combatative when people start to tell me about God, and Jesus.. i think most people are capable of finding their way without unasked for help.

i never understood why it was so important for some people to insist that others worshipped the same way they did.

i still don't understand it.

By the way, before people come in here and call me a religious nut or Bibletard or some other insult, let me make it clear that I am NOT religious nor do I partake in any form of religion.

I am trying to understand the irrational hatred some have for religion as a whole. Surely something terrible must have put you on that path.

So far, none of these answers spell "severe" to me. Losing friends. Adjusting your thinking. Moving a lot. None of these things are what I had in mind. Those things occur in life all the time. Hardly a "severe" impact by my estimation.

If your family died in 911 or you lost your living due to religion in some way, then yes. If you merely hate religion because it inconvienences you then I have to say that's pretty weak.

Carry on.

I'll leave it at this. You want 100% proof of God's existence?

Acts 2:38 KJV

I'll end it at this.

Do that and come back here on GLP Lord willing and say that He doesn't. I've yet to meet an atheist that is bold and confident in their beliefs to do so. Hey, prove me wrong??? Do what a REAL further (ie Bill Cooper) and do whatever it takes to seek the truth. If not, then you are not a real truther at all. Night.

Carry on.

in my case the depth of feeling was more than just an inconvenience. it was a violation of of a very personal relationship i had with god.

btw i don' t have a hatred for any particular religion, but i do deeply resent those whom are aggressive and threatening with their dogma.

just out of curiosity op, why do you not espouse religion?

Re: So, how has religion had a severe negative impact on YOUR life?
It never had any negative effect on me. Actually religion has done more good for many peopl in this modern time than bad.

Did you know churches are among the single higest contributers of food and outreach to the poor? Look it up. Religion also gives people meaning in their lives if they struggle to find one. It is never a bad thing to believe that you have a higher purpose.

I'm not religious myself. But I support any non-violent religious activity that benefits humans. Why not? It is pretty stupid to me to hate on something or a group of people simply because you do not agree with their beliefs. That's just hostility and intollerance. Yes some believers are very vocal, yet they cannot force you to listen and they don't hold you hostage like some people say.

I really don't care either way. I don't care for religion and yet I also don't attack it at every turn. It does not affect me. If only more people can be like that. Atheists can also be very aggressive and almost like zealots themselves.

Religion holds the human race back.

We could be so much more than we are but these childish superstitions get in the way all the time.

How many wars and how much persecution should we endure before these selfish ridiculous immature people finally accept their God does not exist?

Re: So, how has religion had a severe negative impact on YOUR life?
it pretty much scared the piss out of me for the first 30 years of my life because i was convinced god was going to burn me for all eternity for being sexually active while single

then i had a "spiritual" experience and i escaped the brainwash of religion

i don't know if there is an afterlife or not, but i do know the god of the bible is a lie
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1409758

would you mind telling me how you "know" that?

just because you cannot learn to divide the light from the darkness in that book doesn't mean the true living god cannot be found there.

why don't you explain your "spiritual" experience and enliighten us all?

religion is a disease upon man, a putrid canker, a cancer. while it is true that religion can be held accountable for billions of deaths we must not ascribe that to the one who created us; it is the enemy of truth who is the motivation behind it.

our adversary is very wise and knows man very well, but he does not know god and never did. he has sown seeds from the beginning which have grown to obscure the truth like a cottage in a garden of cucumbers such that a righteous and upright man can barely be found.

"religion" to me is to have compassion on all men, not just family or friends but enemies and those who hate me also. to do good unto all men regardless of thier "religion" or whatever they may be. if an enemy ask you for help, help in that you were asked. to see a stranger with the thumb out and stopping to give a ride, buy bus fare, or whateve they need regardless my own thoughts. to see one fallen down and help them up instead of kicking them. yes, all that is "true" religion which no man or spirit can come against.

if you are religious and you fear burning in hell forever then you did never know the truth and you never left bondage; therefore your fear remained.

the whole truth is that deception is the name of the game of this world and everyone falls for it for they are of this world; obfuscation of the truth is the mechanism of deception.

truth has been cast to the ground by the enemy and very few find it!

Religion has not had a severe negative impact on my life.
I am not a religious person of any kind nor was a raised with any kind of religion.
Studying different beliefs and perspectives, both positive and negative, has had a severe positive impact on my life.

Re: So, how has religion had a severe negative impact on YOUR life?
had my best friend leave me behind without a word when i told him i had my doubts.

as in : next day, not even a phone call. some small talk one day 4 years later, and some more a few years after that and that was it.

happened when i was 21. that age when your best friend is supposed to be a constant companion.
 Quoting: Mordier L'eft

I've seen enough of your posts on this forum to know that your friend was quite prudent to leave you in the rear view mirror.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33920001

actually, that's one incident which drove me to my present stance on religion.

his own fault, frankly.
