Winter storm warning

A winter storm will affect the regions today.

Snow associated with a trough ahead of a Texas low will spread into the regions and then quickly become heavy at times overnight and towards morning as the low gets closer to Southern Ontario and intensifies into a major winter storm.

The heaviest snow will occur during the morning rush hour and may continue until near noon. Strong and gusty northeasterly winds will whip up the freshly fallen snow and result in very low visibility at times in blowing snow.

Total snowfall amounts of 25 to 30 centimetres are likely across the regions. Snowfall rates of 3 to 5 centimetres per hour are possible during the heaviest snow. If this occurs, near zero visibility in very heavy snow will be a significant issue to deal with.

Hazardous winter travelling conditions from near zero visibility areas of heavy snow and local blowing snow are expected. Rapidly accumulating snow will also contribute to dangerous driving conditions. Travel plans should be changed accordingly.

The snow will end in the evening as the storm moves away.

A Texas low has tracked northeast to Ohio and will follow a path over Lake Erie into Western New York State or Northern Pennsylvania later today. The storm centre will move away tonight and merge with another winter storm forecast to affect parts of New England and the Maritimes.

Please refer to your local public forecast for further details

Re: 967 mb Major Nor'easter!!! HISTORIC BLIZZARD!!! 4 deaths...
Actually I wish it would snow here. I have my "Vintage" '94 Polaris snowmachine tuned up with new carbides on the skis and a new drive belt all ready to go for our usual once or twice a year snowstorm. The last snowstorm dropped about 6 inches on Christmas night, it was kind of majikal riding a snowmachine in Texas on Christmas night, a gift from the creator and boost to my spirits.

Was funny seeing every cop in town looking for me and driving right past, they couldn't pick me out from all the rednecks riding their four wheelers( they had no chance of catching me anyway unless I allowed it).

The last major snowstorm we had, the only city cop on duty was waiting on the side of the road near my house trying to catch me. I drove right up to his window and asked him why he wasn't out helping people in trouble, there were dozens of people drove off in the ditches. It doesn't snow a foot here very often and this asshole wanted to catch me riding a snowmobile on streets that were impassable to all but four wheel drives so he could give me a ticket.

No wind at all. As a matter of fact, not even a breeze. Just a very light falling/floating snow.

edit to add: No I was wrong. Just checked again. There's a breeze. Lol.

And so it begins...ahhh chuckle!

I don't want to say it now but I'm going to hate it when I look out the window in the morning censored

Well, I am from Bangor. I have seen serious storms, and so far this storm is a wimp. It was fairly difficult to get to work because the roads were slippery, but it looked like that was only because they hadn't even been out to plow yet. The storm is so pathetic they literally haven't plowed once since it started.

Depending on where you look it says we will get either 4 to 8 inches or 12 to 18 inches. I think I am going with 8 inches by tomorrow night, with most of it plowed off by then.

Doom off. Thanks GLP effect! I'll be able to see my girlfriend tomorrow.

Hey Brooklyn, Staten Island checking in with maybe one inch of sleet and snow down, and no wind at all. Light snow falling.

Hi, Brooklyn! Grew up in Sunset Park, later lived on 93rd.

Hi, Staten Island. New Brighton, here, right off the terrace.

At this point we have nary a few inches, but lots of snow drifts, as the wind blows up our hill from the Kill Van Kull.

so far, not much of a storm, thankfully.

The Weather Channel just reported that 617,000 are without power in the NE do to NEMO.

This could be shaping up to be a major disaster. With that many out, and that much snow, power wouldn't be restored for days, if not weeks. Not counting that winter storm ORKO is right on it's heels, moving through Minnesota now and heading East. More snow on the way for the already battered East coast next week!

Right on the water. It's blowing wicked crazy here. Surprised I still have power. Dense snow is whooshing sideways really, really fast.

Can't open my balcony door because a big pile of snow is blocking it.

Toasty warm inside. Feeling blessed.

Just to clarify, that's 617,000 customers without power. That's homes businesses, apartment buildings.

There's probably over a million people without power as it stands.

From forecasts I've heard, the worst impacts of NEMO will be this morning yet to come. So power isn't going to be coming on anytime soon.

Millions of people will likely be without power before this is over.

Massive Blizzard Lashes Northeast
More than 500,000 homes and businesses lost electricity in the storm

Forecasters said wind gusts up to 75 mph could cause more widespread power outages and whip the snow into fearsome drifts. Flooding was expected along coastal areas still recovering from Superstorm Sandy, which hit New York and New Jersey the hardest and is considered Jersey's worst natural disaster.

Meteorologist Jeff Masters, of Weather Underground, said the winter storm was a collision of two storms and may end up among the Boston area's Top 5 most intense ever.

Just saw a 98mph gust on the ASOS at Logan International in Boston. Was immediately suspicious and checked out NWS Taunton's twitter and found this. Seems like the extremely high snowfall rates are messing with the ASOS measurements.

Regarding winds: At this time please ignore all ASOS wind reports due to anemometer/snow problems until we evaluate, we will let you know.

Luisport you need to get out and get a life. It seems you spend your entire life glued to the media waiting for reports of bad weather anywhere in the world and obsessively posting about it!
Even on another forum where the thread was supposed to be about reporting weather in your own location you just couldn't resist - your location was worldwide!
Imo this is a mental health issue and you need help.
