This is not an unusual storm for New England. It may be a big storm, but it's very typical for February. Valentine's day, in 2006 I believe, Vermont got over 36 inches of snow in one day. We just deal with it and move on. Hell, we even enjoy it, with skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, sliding, and riding! The most at-risk are elderly folks who can't do their own snow removal. I'll be volunteering my time tomorrow morning to help those folks. If power goes out, yes, that's troublesome, considering most don't have woodstoves or fireplaces, but it's not likely. Feet of snow, 60mph winds, 10 foot high snow drifts, 20-30 foot waves, this could be worse than Sandy. At least with Sandy there was a reasonable chance to get out of the way. Not with 10 foot snow drifts. |
