Re: Police Officer Slaps US Soldier
If he is truly a Soldier, he did not act like one. Him and his fist-line supervisor NCO both need adjustments. NCO's are Leader/Trainers, and this Soldier is clearly lacking the mentorship of a Good NCO.

1. My Soldiers, don't get mouthy and disrespectful with "State-side" Law Enforcement.

2. My Soldiers would have fought back, like a Combat Soldier.

3. My Soldiers would have Called Me before dialing 911 and I would have brought the necessary Man-Power to deal with whatever situation arises.

4. If the Local Policing Force needs the Adjustment, the adjustment would come at a time they least expect it and it would be overwhelming and overpowering. Just like we did back at Fort Polk, LA in the 1990's

*After seeing the video of the Former Marine/Police SGT. act as he did, I would have counseled my Soldier and had him work for the Police department a few weekends in their Motor pool as corrective training

The Former Marine/Police SGT. made an "On the Spot Correction
" and even excepted the young disrespectful Soldiers apology.

End of Incident.

I got pushed from behind from one cop to another choked (had fingernail imprints in my throat) my ankle broke and thrown thru a fence creating puncture wounds in my shoulder by 4 cops. Why because I questioned their legal authority. Then my family got threatened if I sued. So I plead guilty to DC. The judge was pissed when he saw I was pleading guilty tried talking me out of it. All because of a custody issue with a quest and they called me (the homeowner) out to question something I knew nothing about. I knew nothing so I got my ass kicked on my front porch. Judge fined me 15 bucks and said huge mistake and bitched out the DA and said they are lucky I plead guilty. Bottom line is money wasn't worth my families safety from legal mofia.

Did the cop actually said he could press charges or something like that, and afterwards act like he just let it slide.

I'm glad the cops in my country act on reason rather than force, your cops act like convicts. The kid was outraged by what had happen to him up to the event, some small talk would have calmed him down, but if not then I could understand he needed to be calmed down but the cop vent on a ragetrip as you would expect from some street thug.

No, if a criminal is running from a cop over there and he doesn't have a gun, what's he going to do, yell stop and hope the criminal obeys?
 Quoting: BRIEF

So you shoot somone for just running? Since when is running a crime?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33827757

If they are running with another person's wallet it is...I think anyone that runs from the police should be shot, it's an admission of guilt to run from them.
 Quoting: BRIEF

You really do have a twisted view of reality. What if someone mentally ill is running from the police because they are scared? Is it justified to shoot them because they didn't stop? Obviously in your world it would be. I really hope it happens to you some day so you can reflect on how retarded your opinion is on this subject.

The mind does boggle!

What the hell are you talking about? The guy had been robbed and assaulted and he gave a little attitude as he was obviously pissed off so how does this constitute him being a liberal or how does it have anything to do with eugenics? If you support such behaviour by the police then we are very clearly not on the same side as I do not support a dictatorship where police have threats hitting people because they've heard somebody say something they don't like.

Put yourself in the victims position and see how polite and cheerful you are if your stuff has been dumped on the front lawn and you've taken hits by the perps. I suspect you'd take the same stance as most have in this thread which is that physical violence is wrong when dealing with disgruntled members of the public. Words should have been used to diffuse the situation.

You talk about toeing the line, well, that depends where the line is painted and whether it's susceptible to move at the police's whim. At the end of the day it was this guy that called the cops for assistance. He was not the perpetrator of any crime which makes the cops reaction even more unreasonable and uncalled for.

This is not someone you are dealing with on the street though so your logic does not work here. If police are allowed to act this way without any comeback what do you suppose would happen? They'd start using this approach in more situations on people that didn't actually deserve what happened to them.

And for the record I am 43, though why that has any relevance on the situation is beyond me. As I said, the victim was annoyed at the police taking a long time and he expressed it.

You attitude is one of roll over and do what your told. Why even come here if you are happy with such levels of dictatorship?

That said, the response to posturing and dick waving is NOT to punch and almost strangle someone who is clearly little to no threat.

That officer needs a good civil suit slapped on him.

That had everything to do with CONTROL and nothing to do with defending himself, which is surely the bullshit story he was trying to craft for himself there by repeatedly mentioning his "posturing" up to him.

The cop should absolutely be kicked off the force and sued. Period.

And, I think the other guy already learned his lesson. Ouch.

That being said...if he really was a soldier and was taken down that quickly and easily..he sucks.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30890652

you couldn't see it but when the pig had him on the ground it sounded like he had him by the neck and was choking him which is clearly an assult or even attempted murder...
 Quoting: thetrickybigguy

Exactly. You even hear him gasp out, "I can't breath." That cop should be brought up on assault charges at the very least.
 Quoting: Present and Aware

and this is one thing that i don't believe anybody has even commented on and it's not just that he suckered punched this asshole but then for him to probably put his knee in his chest and then grab him by the throat and choke him?

also he must have made sure the camera wouldn't record him choking this idiot but you can here this guy gasping for air and he did say 'i can't breath'

yup, he was choking the shit out of him...

I am not one to be happy with any sort of dictatorship or police state I live in one and have done for a very long time, Northern Ireland isn't an easy example of that. I just pursued your way of thinking as I likened it to myself and wanted a debate of sorts with someone that fought for a liberal way of thinking. I have lost a lot of friends and family to so called liberal revolutionary thinking. I just wondered how you thought about that?
 Quoting: Papa_lazarou

Well, I'm not a liberal. Far from it in fact but I do know the difference between right and wrong. If the cop had hit this guy in self defence then I would have the opposing argument but you can't go smacking people when you are at work for criticism of how well or poorly you are carrying out said job.

Easily diffused situation with words that actually escalated into violence for no reason at all other than criticism of time taken. Acceptable behaviour? No. Acceptable in self defence? Yes.

Re: Police Officer Slaps US Soldier
Soldier was a punk and deserved what he got.

He should have handled himself better and the cops probably would have treated him better.

And what was that "bro" shit he threw out at them?
Stupid is as stupid does.
 Quoting: Sledster

It's obvious the cop stepped to him. Admittedly the kid is a punk and in some ways I don't blame the cop. However, there are better ways to handle a situation and a smart punk like that. He is a cop, he swore an oath, he is a public servant. If I were in the media I would roast the cop and the department.

You don't go hitting folks in the bread basket because you don't like their attitude. If that were the case I would be jail all of the time.

I being prior service agree, Biscuits has spoken the truth.
 Quoting: AdHocBOHICA

Good old boys from yesteryear......yada, yada. Still missing the point. Just one thing......The ex marine cop is now a civilian police officer. His job is to protect and serve. Not beat a light weight smart ass kid into submission. A few well chosen words could have worked. But, why bother....violence and degradation is so much more fun. Especially if you're a big fat tub of shit. Good thing he didn't have to chase the kid.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 381452

Enjoy the odor that being piss ignorant imposes on your lack of wisdom. You remind me of the 23 year old crying in front of our platton because he was called soom pretty nasty names and humilated.....rightly so, Called a weakly coward motherf&*r by our DI.......Cried like a little bitch, glad he washed out due to his tantrums of "hurt feelings" he was.
 Quoting: AdHocBOHICA

BOHICA Huh? It applies. The cop ain't a DI, you gotta put that away sometime. Soldier or Marine or not. You are in a civilian situation. If I say that I never made an on the spot correction to a whiny trainee or troop I would be lying. I will tell you this that kind of stuff for the past 20, 30 years can very likely get you in front of the old man if not a court martial. Laugh if you want, but I personally know of a couple of incidents that wreaked military careers for very similar incidents. Granted those were in REMF situations. Downrange another story.

Cop had no business using physical force in that situation. Especially when it's being recorded.

 Quoting: Defj@m

Yes.
 Quoting: Defj@m

I agree it escalated well above and beyond what it should have done but that young fella had no right to stand up to the law like he did. Where I come from we fought the law and we won (Northern Ireland) so do you agree then in the way you are thinking that this is the right way to go? Should it be anarchy like we had here. And still have
 Quoting: Papa_lazarou

You know it pisses me off to hear peeps whining about martial law and then taking up for this. If you have anarchy in the streets than declare martial law and then that sort of thing is legal (barely)

The cop used his authority improperly. Am I holding to a different standard. Yes, I am. At times in my life I was held to different standards. I had hold my fists and my tongue. Was it unhealthy...probably. However I took an oath. Just as I suppose as that cop did.
