The interesting aspect is looking at the shadow it casts, that doesn't appear to be a rock.

I think that is a martian crab and those are its shiny eyes...... he he he.

yeah, I was thinking that too. Look at the ground around the thing, you can clearly see that it is an impact site. Dirt is cratered up around the artifact in such a way, that makes me think that the artifact was traveling at a high velocity when it struck the ground.

But with that said, who knows WHERE or even WHEN it actually originated from. This could be something like a probe, which was sent from some ancient civilization which no longer exists. I mean, on Mars...its not like someone is going to scrap it out, or the Big Brother is going to just stroll on in and grab it ;-)
