Very reserved people. Sorry for your loss. Thanks, but my great grandmother never believed he was killed until they returned grandpa's body.... I will find the entry on FINDAGRAVE. I just gave my nephew, not stationed in Italy, all hiw WW2 Medals and a 48 star burial flag That's sad. My grandfather fought in France and Russia...he thought that they fight for the good, especially in Russia against communism Why do we fight in the first place? So pointless... Well, now where the Western Countries are more or less united we fight with the help of UN / NATO against Middle East... |

The maternal Maternal side was French. My dads side is 100% Irish. The people in Europe HATE other nationalities...we embrace it and celebrate it. Cinco de Maya, Saint Patricks Day, Octoberfest, Mardi Gras....any excuse to have fun with friend from were ever they are from!! Quoting: Chuck 30723337 GOS BLESS AMERICA My grandma could really cut a rug at the oktoberfest. So much so you'd think those guys in lederhosen playing accordions were rock stars. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6559517 Yank bastards are so far down, I can barely see them. Hey..... how you're doing down there? Hahahahaha!!!!Meltingpot from the get go. . LOL! I'm an American of half Irish/half German descent, and I don't think the folks in Ireland are any happier with me than the folks in Germany. I feel so disinherited when I'm traveling overseas doing the "getting back to my roots" thing. I do wear socks with sandals, though. That must score me some points with you, right? That's the irony. A European can become American in a matter of weeks and will be welcomed and accepted as such. An American however can never ever become a true European. Will never be accepted as such. Descending a steep slope is relatively easy, climbing back up however may seem sheer impossible. Rock bottom. Like the road a decay is a one way street, the proces can't be reversed. It's like taking a perfect fine cake and take a shit on it, once you've done so it's ruined. Hope that makes sense. . What's so funny about this is that many Americans identify very strongly with their European roots. The Irish-American side of my family clings fiercely to their Irish heritage, and the German-American side of my family is, likewise, very German. After three generations on US soil, we even still speak German. Then we travel to Ireland or Germany with stars in our eyes and get bitch-slapped into reality. They do not, and never will, claim us, apparently. Maybe Americans suffer from a collective indentity-crisis. I can't even imagine what it would feel like to be American. I'd probably would do the same thing. And yeah, you'll always be an American to Europeans. That's what you are. New world, new people. . |

Like, Hallo. Ich komme aus Deutschland. In Germany are many different area's with dialects...like the South, Bavaria. You would say. "Servus. I kimm as Bayern." Lower German is spoken in the North Example Guten Morgen mein Freund (Hochdeutsch) Lower German Moin Moin, mien fründ! [link to mylanguages.org] [link to en.wikipedia.org] |

I think on some level the attitude is more like a child/parent thing rather than an identity crisis. The long lost "child" goes to great lengths to finally go "home" only to be told by the "parent", "You're not mine". |

Out identity is AMERCAN, where we came from is just childish bantor. One thing about North America, you can go from NYC to Seattle to Voncouver to Asutin...all the same. I have spent much time in the so called MOTHERland...In italy, I have never met more racist, fucking shocked to have to change a coash on a train, Paris. same evil contempt fot other. Yeah , we have out problems...but nothing like my experiences in Europe. And my European frinds who stay with me in California, they are suprised at how tranquil out life is...For the most part, we leave our doors open. And when my usual friend from England came over, they were shocked when I left the other cars keys on the sidewalk (when I had to move my vehicle when my PARTENR was away)...He was apoplectic in shock...Siad we would NEVR do that in Engalnd. I said we are in California...deal with it. |
