there's a lot of the oz plate subducting with these quakes. oz itself is jammed against PNG, is it acting as a pivot point? now look at how sumatra/nias quakes seem to be happening in close association with Santa Cruz quakes. [ link to earthquake.usgs.gov] there are 3 sumatran, and one nias quake the 3 Sumatran happened within 17, 11 and two minutes of santa Cruz quakes, and the Nias quake happened almost simultaneously with one is the plate twisting? if it is, the area that the plate is confirmed to have started fracturing with those big quakes off northern sumatra must now be being put under big pressure Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33508203 Maybe, but don't forget about the other plates all around getting pressure as well from it's movement. Quoting: Veresanctus lol this little quake is RIGHT on the shores of Toba.. [ link to earthquake.usgs.gov] [ link to earthquake.usgs.gov] dun dun dun 98 miles down though Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33508203 Does anyone know how deep the magma chamber goes? Could it be ... 98 miles? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33938560 [ link to oi39.tinypic.com] the velocity anomalies are 100 miles in diameter around Toba and are still visible after 12 seconds. I don't know how deep 12 seconds of velocity anomaly is, but i'd assume quite deep btw, look at the 2.5 second anomaly. very close to the epicentre of this quake. also, notice the deep reds are all concentrated on the lake area?
