2012DA14 flight path animation! Cool!
Pretty cool animation seen below. I find it interesting that, at its closest approach, 2012DA14 will be a mere 17000 miles from the surface of the Earth. This means that it will be pulled towards Earth at roughly 1/3 the gravity we experience here on Earth. IF it does get pulled in, a reality that NASA has calculated to indeed be possible, it looks like it could slam Asia.

Additionally, there are many satellites that travel in geosynchronous orbit around the Earth at that distance and points higher up, making collisions possible. There's also the varied space stations.

I also pose a question; is there any real data out there on where this "black knight" object is and it's altitude? If this animation is correct 2012DA14 will fly over the South Pole, and I have heard the unknown object has a stationary polar orbit, I just don't know which pole.

Thanks for posting that. If NASA says it won't impact, then I believe them. They've never lied to us before! chuckle

And of the dark knight alien satellite? Where is it? What is its altitude? Anyone?

as i calculated for you tards in the other thread, this thing is only going to have an impact force of around a hiroshima sized bomb. do the kinetic energy calc yourself; 100,000 metric tons, assuming 30,000 burn off in the atmosphere, and 3500 km/h, assuming it is slowed by 2/3rds during entry, which is a likely estimate if you bother to calculate air resistance. even at full speed of ~11,000km/h and full mass 130,000 metric tons it's still considerably smaller than a standard hydrogen bomb in terms of impact force.

No they haven't. It won't get "pulled in." Earth's gravity is already accounted for!!!

Hey man no need for such anger! Thanks for the math I hadn't seen any such calculations yet. I still have slight concern for it bringing down satellites though.

Oh, yea, a Hiroshima bomb would still be quite significant in a populated area, obviously.

Ok assuming that is correct, and the object isn't any bigger, though it probably is, wouldn't this create some kind of pull on the earthquake faults, or cause a massive tsunami event on both coast lines?

Not fearmongering , doc! There is a legitimate chance that this thing could hit satellites. Never say never.

As the satellites are more or less at similar altitudes, there are only two very tiny "windows of opportunity" on its way in and out where the asteroid passes though those altitudes. As the geostationary satellites are positioned above the equator, they have ruled out those positions being in danger. Basically it would take something astronomical .... oh heck shocked

This one might be a close call, but what about the others that are going to come?

Oh, that won't happen right? This is just a one of, isn't it?
