But when your clothes, your home, your car, your stockpile of food and water and meds, your job, your computer, your family member and pet are literally all swept away out from under you it would be decent to live in a country that actually cares enough to extend a hand until you get back on your feet. |

During worst Blizzard in recorded history. And you thought Bush was bad? In Dexter,MI we had a tornado come through last March. People were out of their homes in a number of instances for 5 mos. Rome wasn't built in a day and the repair of these damaged properties takes what to the layman is considered an exhorbitant amount of time but in reality it is not. If these people carried the necessary basic insurance they should have coverage for up to 9 mos. of housing at a modestly priced motel charging long term rates. If they went bare naked as far as insurance goes or trimmed corners to cut premiums they gambled and in this instance they lost. As to rebuilding it will take a 2 years plus to rebuild or renovate all of these properties. How long does it take to build a new home? Anywheres from a couple of months to a 1/2 a year and that is ONE HOUSE. Here we have thousands of properties in play. As a contractor who has undertaken renovation I can tell you it simply is not going to happen over night so to speak. As far as the insurance companies go for the most part they are dispicable. They are there johnny on the spot to collect premiums but the minute you have a claim the answer is it is not covered and you have to fight for every dime. The answer is go to the top. Start with the adjuster, go to his/her boss, then start up the corporate ladder. Call as many timesw a day as necessary. Contact your agency the ones who sold you the policy and try to enlist their aid with your problem. Last but not least band together and start legal action and throw the boo at them loss of property/income/pain and suffering/loss of sex life the whole ten yards. |

Quoting: El Tiburon It's spelled "berth," you fucking moron. "Birth" is a completely different word. Is english your first language? Obama has no "subjects" he rules over but he's way better than the Repugnican crew that you wanted to run the executive branch. It took a week for Bush's dysfunctional FEMA to do anything while hundreds were dying in New Orleans. Tens of thousands of residents were simply shipped out and spread all over the country. So yes, the federal response under President Obama was far better. Wow that was mean! Birth or berth we got the gist. |

One house may have been destroyed but at least 30 had various stages of damage with people out. This was a microcosim of Sandy and problems developed. To assume that the Pres can wave a magic wand and all will be well is ludicrous at its inception. This is long term shit and you do the best you can period. |
