There is a huge storm heading my way (BIG ASS NOR'EASTER).
I went out to the wood shed this morning to bring in a load of wood in case of a power outage and really deep snow.
Tucked in behind some of the wood, protected from the wind was a Lynx. We made very brief eye contact and I jumped back out of the wood shed. 2 - 3 seconds later he ran out. I live on a lake, and he ran out onto it and towards the woods.

The weird thing is I have 2 hounds that would have been all over that cat if they were let out before I went to the wood shed, and the Lynx would have been able to smell them all over the area. Guess it was looking for a quick shelter, although we are not expecting the storm until this evening.

Weird...but pretty cool too.

Rabbits used to make their little snow burrows in our garden even though we have cats. I'm not sure nature perceives threats in the same manner that we do.

I actually thing the cat may have been looking for a place to die. I've seen that kind of behaviour in the bush before. They like to hide, curl up and die when their time comes.

aww, i hope your lynx just wanted good shelter. i'd go by that, and pile in lots of wood.

poor thing, i am really struck that it would seek a confined spot for safety. must be a doozer of a storm coming alright.

dogs can chase things away. they do not keep things away as most animals do not fear one or two dogs. wolf packs on the other hand.............

I went outside with my two dogs last night around midnight. The dogs went around to the back yard when I saw a cat trotting down the street. I called the dogs & said "There's a cat."

It stopped and looked at me & I realized it wasn't a cat, it was a fox! I live in a suburban area & I've never before seen a fox in my neighborhood. It turned and went into the woods across the street. Meanwhile, the dogs were oblivious.

My dogs love tracking fox. They'd have been gone for hours.

Re: Scared a Lynx out of my wood pile this morning. Weird that it was there since I have 2 hounds.
I would love to see a lynx in real life. they say you could try and find one your whole life and never see one. very rare site.

death story plausible. lynx would not be afraid of dogs, dogs tend to be dumb and lynx would probably tear it up. storm theory is most true. animals can sense the severe drop in pressure and the magnetic parts of the storm. finding good shelter would be an instinct to the lynx. this is what they do.

Hounds in a pair or in a pack would rip apart a lynx even if they took a little damage. Hunting dogs hunt.
