Seems like a lot for a regular gun. Not sure what your knowledge base is with guns, but MOST guns are semi-automatic. Semi-automatic just means that every time you pull the trigger, it fires, until the clip is empty. Most handguns are semi automatic. ALL standard police issue guns are semi-auto. I don't know if perhaps you meant FULLY automatic?.....but yes....they were absolutely semi-automatic.
