everyone here has forgotten about NK's conventional artillery. Seoul is in range of most of it and will be pulverized within 15 minutes in the event of any type of war. they know it and have planned around it, but that doesn't change the fact they know, that if they start a war they can kiss Seoul goodbye.

the SK military brass who are talking about a pre-emptive strike are well aware of what they are proposing. members of this forum seem completely unaware of what they are proposing.

North Korea has the strongest diplomatic relationships with is China and Russia but not actual allies.

I question just how tough North Korea really is. Saddam's army was huge with a lot of hardware, but their starving and poorly trained troops were easily rolled up.

On the other hand, I also question how a Korean war happens without the US and China getting involved, and probably Japan and a few others.

What would South Korea gain from an attack like that? A bunch of enemies. (I'm pretty sure China and even Russia wouldn't be too happy about it and who knows what Iran and the other countries like that would do. Open season, right?) So no profit for them.

What would North Korea gain from attacking anyone? A bunch of enemies that would definitely wipe the country off the map for good. And starting a WW3, an all out nuclear war. So no profit for them.

However, I do wonder why NK has been so active with threats recently. Running out of food?

Yes, we have mid-course interceptors in Ft. Greely and in Vandenburg.

We also have RIM-161 Standard Missile 3 with Aegis and X-band from the naval point of view which will most likely intercept it.

As far as it popping off, no, the warhead will not explode.

I'm quite sure they will not attempt to fire at the US, the chance of success right now for them is pretty low and they still have not demonstrated achieving a warhead.

Lobbing it over to SK is easier.

There would be PAC-3's for SK and SM-3's might be thaad over there too, not sure.
