Thing is why now... from what I understand these are not from UK sources, but European ones...

Given the situation between the UK and Europe, I can't help but feel, hmmm a set up... why do these checks now?

Seems we have been selling our UK horses (not fit for human consumption, full of chemicals, carcinogenic substances) over to Europe, they "process" it and sell it back to UK as "beef".

Nice. How many billions has this cost us consumers? Someone has done rather nicely. The only way to upset the average Brit these days is to cancel a football match.

The LAW requires that food products be as described.
Some people keep horses - and love them
==========================

Yeah I do and Im fucking pissed off How the fuck could this happen in today strict movement of animals?... experiments comes to mind

Joking about this is what the media and their corporate sponsors want you to do. I despair at how people can be so easily manipulated.

On top of this, you can be certain that the same stringent, highly regulated standards are applied to all things that enter your body. Vaccines, drugs, cosmetics, water...etc

Keep laughing.

There will always be neigh-sayers who need to come off their high-horse. I'm sure this story will run the course despite a few hurdles. No point closing the stable doors now the horse has bolted.

Horse meat is really common in my country. You'll find on most menus. And it tastes great at that. The shock reaction really strikes me as an Anglo-Saxon thing.

I dont see why people dont prepare there own food. I just prepared lasagna for dinner tonight.. Beef and 3 cheese. Yummy!

My opinion: If you buy fast food and pre prepared foods and drinks then there's always a risk of meat bring mislabeled, chemicals in the drinks... and ugh the hormones. Id be more worried about the bacteria in an ice machines from food places and gas stations then the horse meat your getting from these places.
Not that it makes it right or anything though. You take the risk by supporting and eating their food. rant

^^ UK > More Horse Meat Horror, Whole Lasagnas Made Entirely Of Horse Meat. Geeze Don't Have A Cow.....no literally we dont have any cow.

Question: Is This Last Summer's Heat Wave That Caused The Cullings, Resulting In Meat Manufaturer Desperation, Before The Price Hikes?

I don't know what you are talking about.

If I would have the choice between a beef burger or a horse burger, I'd take the horse burger.

Horses live for a relatively long time. A child can own a horse right into adulthood. These relationships can be a strong as those with friends/relatives.

Notice how the media have turned this into one big joke - rather than treat it as the serious issue that it is?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1663367

Agreed... I work in the food industry supplying large supermarket chains including a subsidiary of a giant US chain.

What astounds me is that little attention has been paid to traceability. It is expected that we can trace EVERY ingredient in our products. This is key to proving that ingredients are safe and "in date".

There must have been massive laundering of this horse protein to turn it from horse to cow. Our waste and over-made products are all food fit for human consumption, even so it is not allowed to be fed to pigs, but must go into land fill. Meat can be traced back to farm animal passports. INDIVIDUAL Animals in the UK must be registered for the carcass to be accepted into the food chain.

If horse meat is happily passed off as cow, what is the likelihood that that processing and storage procedures have been followed.

Who gives a f*** that horses are eaten, but we should be OUTRAGED that big companies are taking the piss sticking ANY OLD SHIT into their products.

FUCKING SCANDALOUS that no one was checking, and these fucks thought they could get away with it... And doubtless they will.

im tellin ya it all has to do with the u.s. cattle market getting wiped out this last summer, supply and demand are out of whack now and the industry wroldwide has been effected, trying to cut corners wherever and however they can. once this next summer gets underway, barring another heatwave catastrophe, things should normalize

what's the big problem?

i bet people were saying 'mmmm, this is the tastiest ready meal i have ever tasted!' before this shit broke.

i wouldn't have a problem with eating it tbh.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33508203

sorry, but the point is people should know what they are eating and then make a choice whether they want it or not, otherwise it is fraud.

Thanks, that's interesting. From top to bottom, everything in our modern society is broken, corrupt, false and degenerate. How much longer can it last?
