What happened to music?
I'm genuinely pondering on that. While there have been songs with sophisticated texts in every era, even nowadays, I think it's safe to say that most of them just contained a bunch of platitudes and vapid statements. I frankly don't see how some 60s songs are that much more intelligent than stuff in our time and age. Granted, back then people at least put in the effort to string together coherent sentences. Anyhow, that's not the point I'm trying to make. The discrepancy regarding the intellectual quality is negligeable.

What does bug me however is that, up to the 90s, songs seemed to have a soul to them, a personality if you will. Even the most stupid bland pop songs managed to make you feel happy to some extent and emitted a general sense of goodwill.

Nowadays everything seems either void or malicious. And don't tell me back in the 90s the music industry had so much more integrity that they felt comitted to deliver quality product. The effort put into a 90s song is at best marginally different than when it comes a more recent song.

And still it seems as if they somehow had the life sucked out of them. Even with that carefree superficial 90s vibe, music seemed more genuine than nowadays. I can't really put my finger on it, but there is a realling unsettling world of difference between pre millennial music and modern stuff. Really, how come?

Re: What happened to music?
we hear what record labels want us to hear and market to us.

i would suggest seeking out independent artists. there are many many out there and a lot of them are very good.

great music to be had when it is not 'mainstream'

you are hearing the manufactured garbage pumped into radio, itunes and record stores.

here are some links to get you started:

Guys, I'm talking about them being corporate sellouts. Most established well known 70s to 90s bands were as much sellouts as, as the guy above me stated Beyonce or Jay Z for instance. And still, the vibe you got from those bands is monumentally different than from what you have nowadays. It not just that songs were more joyous back then. Todays somber and graver songs seem more feigned and insincere as the ones in the olden. And honestly, while I am by no means an expert, I feel the same way when it comes to indie songs. There is just something lacking. I can't put my finger on what it is, but it is something that just went missing in the last decade.

You are correct, IMO.

Contemporary "pop" music is vile, and life-destroying.

I refuse to listen to it, and have my car radio permanently set to Classic FM.

"When I recently presented to a friend a truncated summary of the information contained in the first installment of this series, said friend opted to play the devil’s advocate by suggesting that there was nothing necessarily nefarious in the fact that so many of these icons of a past generation hailed from military/intelligence families. Perhaps, he suggested, they had embarked on their chosen careers as a form of rebellion against the values of their parents. And that, I suppose, might be true in a couple of cases. But what are we to conclude from the fact that such an astonishing number of these folks (along with their girlfriends, wives, managers, etc.) hail from a similar background? Are we to believe that the only kids from that era who had musical talent were the sons and daughters of Navy Admirals, chemical warfare engineers and Air Force intelligence officers? Or are they just the only ones who were signed to lucrative contracts and relentlessly promoted by their labels and the media?

"If these artists were rebelling against, rather than subtly promoting, the values of their parents, then why didn’t they ever speak out against the folks they were allegedly rebelling against? Why did Jim Morrison never denounce, or even mention, his father’s key role in escalating one of America’s bloodiest illegal wars? And why did Frank Zappa never pen a song exploring the horrors of chemical warfare (though he did pen a charming little ditty entitled “The Ritual Dance of the Child-Killer”)? And which Mamas and Papas song was it that laid waste to the values and actions of John Phillip’s parents and in-laws? And in which interview, exactly, did David Crosby and Stephen Stills disown the family values that they were raised with?"

"Let's also pray that non-Jews learn from their fellow citizens about how to achieve and to prosper in our waning American culture. Alas, most gentiles are content with their lower rungs on the ladder and that 'content' will forever doom them to second class status in today's Jewish America."

"I should, I suppose, qualify that last statement: Ron Jeremy’s fame is inexplicable in the sense that it is hard to imagine that anyone, male or female, really wants to see Ron Jeremy naked. He is not, however, just any ol’ porn star. To the contrary, he is a porn star whose mother was an asset of the OSS, precursor to the CIA, and whose physicist father had probable intel connections as well. And he is a porn star who attended high school with none other than future CIA director George Tenet, and a porn star whose uncle had ties to notorious gangster Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel."

Interesting post above AC, but I would just say that they made a fortune off of selling anti-greed messages, and now they are so wealthy they have become complicity with the debt mongering elite which have enslaved us all. Ironic isn't it? To become enslaved by the very thing they were supposedly against?

Re: What happened to music?
Its because of the $$$$$$$$$$$$

You can tell these new artists are just making music for the $$$$.
Thats why it feels void of any emotion. You can tell a band or artist is clearly making their product for money just by listening to it. Its like staring at a blank sheet of paper with glitter sprinkled on it just to catch your eye.

There are bands and music that give you chills up your spine or make the hairs on your arms stand up amongst goosebumps. This is because these bands work on their craft to be full of human emotion through the sounds and vibes created. These other new artists are trying to FIT IN to the current trends to simply make a dollar.

It will be a sad day when everyone has forgotten what real music was....
I think $$$$ is to blame.......

In the 70s the music was about love-
Love love love, kissing, hugging, holding hands, really want to see ya tonight, walking in the rain, kissing in the moonlight, cruising around with the one you loved in a nice car made of lots of steel, telling someone you loved them, lookin into their eyes, dreaming about them, hearing their voice, the joy they brought to your life, the happiness, the sunshine, the flowers from the fields, the feelings that you never ever knew before that were the most wonderful feelings ever and you didn't want those feeling to ever ever end, you never wanted them to go away ever, you wanted to be with them forever and ever or you would die without them, would be lost without their love, would wander through the streets the rest of your life searching for them cause they were the most wonderful beautiful most magical thing that ever ever happened to you, because you would not be able to eat sleep live without them, without their touch, without their smile, without their love and no one ever would be as wonderful as them even if you searched the whole world over, you would never ever find a love so precious, and birds would fly down from the sky every time they walked by, and you longed to be closed to them and you waited for the postman to bring a letter from them, that they would say they loved you also, forever and ever and ever-and you would get married, hava a family, buy a little house, in the country and the kids would be like you and he, as free as a dove, and even though they don't have money they were so in love with each other-----

The oldies stations arne't even playing the love songs lately. The love songs are disappearing. Tbtb don't want anyone in "love mode" - intentional imo

The stuff that's being played on the radio is not music, but that doesn't mean there's no real, meaningful music around anymore... you just need to spend more time looking for it.

If you dont have that time, listen to the old music you like. Nothing wrong about that. Music isn't more valuable just because it's new.
