So I was watching teen jepordy this evening and not 1 of the three knew this easy question about Jesus
They asked what Jesus did for work, and not 1 of the three contestants even tried to answer. I guess America is really going away from Christianity, the fact that none of them said a word deeply disturbed me and is just 1 more sign of the times we live in.

Wow... Sad
The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. Romans 13:11

And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. Matthew 10:22

Wake up, oh sleeper, and rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you

Christians are probably excluded in the auditions. Lotta tv works that way.

The value of Jesus was in his teachings and morals.

Trivia about his personal life is utterly irrelevant.

Even as a non-religious individual I know the fellow was a carpenter. I think the problem is not American going away from Christianity, but from education in general.

Spirituality is a personal pursuit, and one that cannot be made for you. A loving parent teaches their children basic morality, but when it comes to dogma, each individual has the right to decide.

It's also up to the individual to educate themselves about their own religion. You cannot indoctrinate your child. They will, no matter what, decide for themselves when they reach the appropriate age.

As long as you've taught your children right from wrong, the fact that Jesus was a carpenter is utterly irrelevant, and frankly is not a necessary part of understanding scripture or appreciating his teachings. It's mere trivia.

It's more complicated than that.

Joe was actually an architect/contractor, who ran a profitable business.

Jesus was in his business until age thirty. (So not just a preacher.)

Of course he was actually 45 and owned the business when he left. You see the early church couldn't let the J-man be older when he did his great work than Alexander the great was when he conquered the known world... So they fudge a bit and made him younger, to match the same age.

There is also some indication that there might have been more than one "Jesus" Two brothers with the same name.

Jesus the Christ (The religious leader)

and

Jesus Barabbas (The secular leader)

So, while they should have the same basic building business background, their careers after that were very different.

So, simple question? Yes. It's clear they were looking for carpenter as an answer.

But the real question would be a lot harder to answer. Because there is clearly more to the story than most bother thinking about.

Teen Jeopardy?

No wonder. They're teenagers. They have a billion other priorities. It's not surprising three of them would not know some Jesus trivia.

Studying the detailed life and times of Jesus is a scholarly pursuit for those who have the free time and inclination. As long as these teenagers have a sense of morality and justice, their parents are doing better than most.

It's a clear moral compass that makes a good and righteous person. Any man of evil can quote the bible.

Very sad.

I find it extremely sad that people don't know The Lord's Prayer.

BTW, it is important to know that Jesus was a carpenter. There is a reason God did not make him a King, Prince or someone else from a wealthy family. It is easy for humans to follow someone who is good looking and wealthy, not poor and common.

Jesus was not a preacher.
He was the son of God the Father by Mary,
and did lots of studying and teaching
in temples before he began to reach the
general population in the streets at age 30.

He was more of a reformer than a preacher.
He re-established his church, same one he had
set up with Adam and Eve in the beginning,
sent out missionaries,
and himself evangelized on foot to everyone he
met.

Mary's husband, Joseph was said to be a carpenter,
but was a contractor, with crews of builders.
Mary had come from a family of substance, as had
Joseph, who were distant cousins.

You have to study Jewish (Israeli) ancient history
to get details.

The standard answer on a game show quiz, as carpenter,
would have been wrong. Those students may have been
smarter and more well read than you think.

They may also have been Jewish.

It is Catholicism that mystified Christianity
when in fact it is quite literally, not mystic.

The root meaning of create, means organize, not
wave a magic wand
say poof and have something in front of you that was
not there before.

Faith is real, and necessary in the face of ignorance.
Mysticism however, is just a bunch of manmade hocus pocus.

He was a pretty good fisherman.

I doubt that he was a construction contractor or owned a business, since most of his disciples came from one of the Bethei Any (Bethany).

Beth Any was the name for a commune, hence the name Beth (House) Any (poor). Individual members owned no assets.. That's right. Americans pray to a black communist Israelite...
