The police have already killed innocent people in this manhunt. Personally I think we'd all be a lot safer if police were not allowed to carry guns at under any circumstances, only citizens.

Literally dozens of people have been gunned down in the past few years alone simply because the police thought their cell phone was a gun, at least that was the official story, and you know what, they are ALWAYS cleared of any wrongdoing no matter how obviously criminal it is.Laws are only legitimate if they apply to everyone equitably, and by this standard most cops would have been shot in self defense by now.

The idea of a municipal enforcement goon squad is something that is relatively new, post civil war, and there is no Constitutional mandate for their existence.

For those of you unaware of history, New York city was the first place to have a municipal police force in the United states and they were quite unpopular and often targets of murder. The word "cop" comes from the fact that these NYC police officers wore uniforms with copper buttons that tarnished quickly, much like their reputations as vicious killers. Nothing has changed since.

My point is when an organization such as municipal police forces causes more harm than good to the people, it has no business existing. I don't think anyone here will dare argue we are safer because we have them.

I am no weapons expert by any means. However, I grew up around guns, being raised in the country. After dredging my memory, I cannot think of a rifle that did not have a detachable magazine. Even the old bolt-action .22 had a magazine. Stupid question department: How do you get a bullet into the chamber without a loading mechanism? Does this mean muzzle loaders will come back into fashion in California?
