Being thirty sucks.
So I'm thirty now. I don't have any kids. I'm really fit. I have a lot of ideas and ambition for the world.

But all of the people I grew up with are like... dead inside. They are like... totally messed up. Almost all of them are way overweight, and sick. They have MS and psychiatric problems, etcetera. And they all do hardcore drugs and alcohol like its nothing. Their entire social lives are based around television shows, alcohol, and drugs.

It's like... i remember just a few years ago talking to all these people about our plans. We were going to change shit. Do shit. Invent shit. Create shit. Fix shit...

Now? They just get dead drunk and pass out in their vomit and watch 'community' and 'the walking dead' and play fricking video games all day.

Now, don't get me wrong. I love the walking dead. Great show. But video games? Its nuts. Thirty year old men are calling me and talking for hours about some imaginary dude in assassin's creed.

I'm thinking the whole time... what about real life? We should be LIVING these things, not playing it in some video game. That was what I liked about video games when I was a kid. They were exciting because in the back of my mind I was thinking, "this is giving me some cool ideas for when I grow up!" What is fun about playing a video game when you are grown up? Besides the extremely limited social aspect.

So my question is... is everyone #$%^ed up, are just my friends @#$%ed up, or is this just what happens at thirty?

Try christianity. Really works.
You will find out all those who think they are supposedly too smart to be religious are sad, angry and messed up. As if its someone's fault that they are not happy.

ok... so instead of my friend calling me and telling me about the fantasy world of assassins creed I'll have to listen to people telling me about the fantasy world of Jesus Christ and his adventures in heaven?

Same thing.

I like Christians. They are nice to be around. Kind of like being around stoned people. You feel safer. Like a wolf walking in a herd of sheep.

But Christians don't do anything. They just pray to the imaginary guy in the sky. So if I get sick, I don't need a bunch of nutjobs begging some guy in the sky to fix me. I'd rather have people around me who would like... try to cure me.

So I appreciate the offer. I know religion is the opiate of the masses n all. But no thanks.

You are going to have to learn to accept two things to
get through your life.

1. 90% of people are effed up, and will stay that way.

2. It's lonely on your end of the IQ scale.

Keep on going in the gold that you are.
To find others like yourself,
find a decent person, marry
and have kids.

That is the best way to make
the world a better place in
the long run. Make a great
family.

A lot of obesity is due to chemicals and hormones in the foods anyway, so your friends may not be particularly at fault for that one...unless you're a snob like me and fault them for being too stupid to know that.

When I turned 30 someone told me that when you look back you'll see that you enjoyed your 30s better than your 20s.

In your 20s your still experiencing the transition of adulthood and living in the world

In your 30s you will begin establishing yourself, working toward your goals, seeing your plans coming into place.

As I look back my 30s was my best time. I felt more settled in, things were working. I was having some fun.

When I turned 30 I thought well im old, the fun is over, and then I woke up the next day, so it seemed, and I was 40.

STFU dude and do whatever it is you want to do, you dont need your friends, your literally wasting time moping around, yesterday is gone and today will be gone soon also.

30 is the best age to be, trust me.

It's not too terrible.

For what it's worth, you're coming out of your Saturn return. It's a strange time, as Saturn only returns to your chart every 28 years or so. It's not necessarily scary, but it does tend to bring up a lot of deep-seated issues and changes come fast.

I just turned 31 and am definitely not where I thought I would be in my life. That's a hard pill to swallow because I thought everything was mapped out in life and all I needed to do was follow the map. Unfortunately, life doesn't happen like that.

My best recommendation is to do what you want to do. Don't depend on your friends to be alongside you; they have their goals, you obviously have yours. It's okay and perfectly normal to grow apart.

Do you live in your hometown? I moved a couple thousand miles away, which made it easier to find my own path, but if I was back home, the pressure to conform and be like my friends would be much more acute. I'm not recommending that you uproot yourself or do anything drastic, but DO live your life on YOUR terms and take each moment slowly, filling it with things that YOU love to do. Want to take up hiking? Do it! Gourmet cooking? Do it!

Think about the people you respect in life. They do what they love, no matter what. So should you.

Lol, I was going to say the same thing. The idealism of youth washes away with the drudgery of earning a living and endless cycles of stupidity masquerading as entertainment. We forget how to create, to dream and to care. We learn to watch out for #1 and eff the rest. By the time you make it to 50 half your friends have died and the other half might as well be.
Should you make it to 50 and still have dreams and ethics then you have conquered the art of living but don't expect anyone to care. They've gone so far the other direction you'll seem like an alien life form to them.
Who was in the superbowl? proud to say I'm clueless.
