Scientists say they are sure there is no chance of the 150ft (45.7m) wide space rock hitting the planet.

But there is a remote possibility that it could collide with one of more than 100 telecommunication and weather satellites in fixed orbits above the Earth.

No you don't you only parrot what you have been told...

And besides they are thrown out the window when you consider an "Electric Universe"...Which by introducing a new theory the old is in "limbo" until proven (or should I say, agreed upon by a few scientist with the "red pencils") one way or the other...

There Again, How many "celestial" bodies have you seen doing a gravitational dance??

I think none...as all bodies in the Universe are electrical and gravity is a weak source...

Why can you pick up a steel ball with a natural magnet in spite of gravity pulling on both objects??

How can you suspend a steel ball between 2 magnets in defiance of gravity??

Check out the Electric Universe...It can explain it for you...

Just curious, are you also saying there is 0 probability of a Tunguska event ?
 Quoting: TS66

For this asteroid? Yes, that's what I'm saying.
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

so you dont think that that this change in miss distance is due to a miscalculation of the mass of and the effect the earth's gravity is having on the incoming trajectory? if we see further increases then we can assume that an unpredictable change to the orbit is being observed.

Anyone want to take bets! I bet it will not hit. I offer odds of 99/1 for it to hit.

You bet $10 and if it hits you win from me $1000!

We can set it up via paypal.

Not only do you get to prove NASA are liars but you can win lots of money too!

I hear ya, I was just posting what NASA was saying.

I found the confidence of zero impact strange in combination with the urgency of astrometry needed.

I remember saying days ago, NASA's statement of a 99.999% chance of impact did not reflect such a close encounter.

I would expect 99.98122% or 98.9999% or 99.909912% chance of miss, but thats how you catch a liar.

99.99999% was ordered to be published to hide the real impact chance.

Which, according to logic at this point, should have decreased a little. If it was 99.999% and now it scoots inwards, has that number changed any?

Probably not, which backs up my belief of disinformation being pushed.
 Quoting: --Voltaic--

There is NO chance of impact on this encounter. None whatsoever.

We already have new astrometry prior to the encounter, and now the uncertainty region is incredibly tight. It does not overlap earth at all, not even close, which is why there is NO chance of impact.

This rock masses something like a million tonnes at least, satellites typically mass a few tonnes.
The satellite would get dustified, the rock would barely notice.
It would get a little crater and might loose a few centimetres per second of speed.
Which might make a difference a thousand years later, but not now.
book
 Quoting: Halcyon Dayz, FCD

er, maybe if the asteroid was a 'million tonnes' like you said, but that is incorrect.

The asteroid weighs approx 130,000 meric tons.

Ugh. I used D not r.

Anyhoo, same OOM.
And: Mass - This estimate assumes a uniform spherical body with the computed diameter and a mass density of 2.6 g/cm3. The mass estimate is somewhat more rough than the diameter estimate, but generally will be accurate to within a factor of three.
[link to web.archive.org]
I used 2.7 g/cm^3 which is the best current estimate for such asteroids.
So it'd loose 10 cm/s. Big deal.

Anything energetic enough to change its orbit enough to hit Earth would turn it into an expanding cloud of rubble.

No I don't. Learn what significant figures are. NASA's not saying it's 17000 miles exactly on the dot. Please tell me you're not that stupid.
...

Quit trying to confuse people. Quit trying to attack my video on false premises. People like you are why I will never stop debunking, because people like you need to be put in their place.

NASA's exact prediction of the close approach distance (note these distances are to earth's center, not the surface, subtract a mean radius of 3959 miles):
[link to ssd.jpl.nasa.gov]
Close approach between 17,194.1444 - 17,205.4341 miles. My figure falls into their close approach range, I am not in disagreement with NASA.
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

I'm asking you direct questions. I know what I heard you say in your video! I saw your graphics! You claim an even steeper pass with much less chance of a geosynchronous collision, to the INSIDE (between earth and the toroid of space junk and sats) and
you show this in your graphics, which means you are countering NASA's claim of a geosynchronous hazard. ..which means you are claiming an approach closer to earth based on your latest and better astrometry. Please answer my earlier question: why is NASA still, as of their update today, broadcasting "Astrometry URGENTLY Needed" especially since you have all the answers?
You are so insecure! I question you and you call it an attack? Duder, you'd never make it in a classroom!
Be nice. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrryoda
 Quoting: Kimpy2 20290901

NASA AND I BOTH SHOW IT PASSING BY AT A DISTANCE OF ABOUT 17205 MILES, THAT IS INSIDE THE ORBITS OF OUR GEOSYNCHRONOUS SATELLITES, WHAT PART OF THAT DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?! Astrometry is always wanted during close approaches!!!
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

Aww, and now the child resorts to screaming.

I just knew "Dr." Astro would be in here shilling about. He may not be a shill, by definition, but he is certainly a self-glorified know-it-all.

You, sir, have absolutely no factual evidence that this asteroid will not hit earth. Nobody can say that with absolute certainty. Just when I feel like, "man, this guy is actually quite intelligent", you completely contradict yourself with ignorant statements such as this.

Go home Astro, your nonsense is getting old.
 Quoting: S0L4RN1GHTM4R3

Yes, I do. I know the orbit with far more than enough certainty to rule out an impact. You will owe me a huge apology on Friday when it passes by exactly as I predicted.

Tell the ER docs you don't need that ELECTRO-encephalogram of your head injury and tell them to keep that ELECTROcardiogram away from your Myocardial Infarcted heart that went critical after your head-on collision! You're addicted to Morans cuz you are one! Like attracts like! Blow up a balloon, tie it off, rub it briskly over your hairy chest and knuckles, and stick it to your comb-over. Voila! You've discovered a new Universal force! Maybe they'll name it after you!yoda

this is a mighty close shave for us

picture a 50 yard wide, long and deep chunk of rock, slamming into the planet at the speed it's gonna be doing

we are dodging a bullet here, with a scorched scalp

COMMANDING OFFICER: We estimate it has a diameter of over five hundred and fifty kilometers and a mass roughly one fourth the size of our moon.

GENERAL GREY: A meteor?

SECOND OFFICER: No Sir. Definitely not.

GENERAL GREY: How do you know?

SECOND OFFICER: Well, er... it's slowing down.

GENERAL GREY: It's doing what?

SECOND OFFICER: It's... slowing down, Sir.

Which has fuck all to to with electrotardism.

If Cz claims electric forces move celestial bodies around it would really help his case not to talk like a scientifically illiterate moran.

Here, in light of the the statement by NASA, I repeat my post of several days ago, written to the shills who are so certain there is not doom in this.
Making such a close pass to earth might change it into an expanding group of rubble, which many of these are, not solid rocks, and even if none of that hits earth on this pass, it seems that the chances would increase that some of it hits the earth on future passes.

BTW, there would be no "earthquakes" as we know it on a football field sized solid rock, but if there were, that would only be movement between various pieces, which are connected by the most delicate forces imaginable.
