I used 2.7 g/cm^3 which is the best current estimate for such asteroids.
So it'd loose 10 cm/s. Big deal.

Anything energetic enough to change its orbit enough to hit Earth would turn it into an expanding cloud of rubble.

I finally decided to put my 2 cents in here. I personally am at awe. I have to wonder #1 why we even believe half of what NASA says. Then I have to secondly wonder where some folks get off saying stupid BS.

Why am I saying that? Has anyone noticed how NASA went from it will miss, to there is a very slim chance to once again there is no chance?? What did they all decide they can't figure out crap or did they let the cat out of the bag? I just have to wonder. Thursday they stated to the public there was a slim chance of it hitting the earth a greater chance of it hitting satellites and now no chance at all?????

Then I read what a crazy man had to say on RN forum, about how all the satellites were going to be fine because the owners of them had remote controls so they could move them out of the way??? That's new, all the time Satellites are being hit by space junk, yet they can move them?? Why not move them before they get hit by space junk?

But then we have to realize how much junk is up there and how many satellites are up there. Do you really think that something coming straight at them is going to miss all of them??

You can do an experiment by scattering tons of junk around a baseball on the floor with junk being small pieces of paper roll a marble the same way this will be coming in and you will see exactly what I mean, something Will get hit. Even if its not earth the junk, or the satellites will get hit.

But why did they say just a few days ago there was a very slim chance of it hitting and a greater chance of it hitting satellites and now all of a sudden it wont do either. WTF? Am I missing something here?

Also they told how big of an area if it did hit the earth would be effected a 750 mile area would be effected if it hit land. Why would they even say that if they thought nothing would happen?? Once again making me wonder am I missing something here???

Geostationary satellites usually have some manoeuvring fuel to kick them in a graveyard orbit when they retire.
It could be use to move the sat out of harms way.
But is only very rarely that you know that something is coming.

So earth has pulled it in around 3,500 miles in the last day or two now that is a wow from me with just over 5 days to go its going be going over the roof tops,man now that is close lol.

So it's 14000 now? This JPL animation says 17000 and it came out just a few days ago. They don't know what this thing is going to do any better than they can predict the weather a week from now.

on the john moore show from friday (on you tube) his guest claimed her jlp contact said it 500-1000 meters and because of that our gravity will effect its orbit more. our gravity will pull it 100 times strong.

what concerns me is this time the msm news started mentioning this rock a wk away.they usually warn us of near-misses a day or 2 b4. why is nbc reporting on this a wk out??? very strange. let alone the added "its not if but when" a solar storm takes out the grid,cell phones,sattelites,etc.

Making such a close pass to earth might change it into an expanding group of rubble, which many of these are, not solid rocks, and even if none of that hits earth on this pass, it seems that the chances would increase that some of it hits the earth on future passes.
