but seriously people, we've seen more 7-8 mag quakes in the past week than we basically saw of all the last year. these are obviously foreshocks.

if you've been in delusion thinking california will not crack off, now is the time to reconsider.

The quake is in the area of Galeras volcano

yes it's all the same plates moving against each other. it's all the same ocean... it's the same movement.

subduction is when one plate goes out and down, underneath another plate. that is what would likely happen off California where the san andreas would crack out and down into the pacific.

No foreshocks whatsoever, just a 7.0 out of nowhere.

this is also tied into the swarms around Alaska, Japan, New Zealand, PNG... and yes obviously South America.

this is the foreshock...

it all happened the same way in March 2011 before the 9.0+ hit off Japan

Update 14:30 UTC : Just for the information of our readers : NO tsunami can e triggered as the epicenter is far inland.

Update 14:28 UTC : As indicated below, other agencies are reporting a depth of 80 to 120 km, which is weakening the impact a lot, but a M7.2 earthquake is still a very huge earthquake which can do a lot of damage in softer soil.

Update 14:26 UTC : We have the impression that the hypocenter (depth) of the earthquake will be deeper than the preliminary value of Geofon.

The earthquake has an epicenter to the east of Pasto, Colombia
