Re: Texas/Oklahoma/Louisiana/ Mississippi/Alabama - weather/Tornado reports
I was curious of the frequency of these type of tornadoes in February. Found some data suggesting that, although rare, they do occur this early in the year, with Mississippi recording the most in the past 60 years. I'd venture to say this was an F-2; Mississippi gets one per year on average. If F3 it would be a far more rare event.

Don't know Truth...when things settle down I will try to find an answer for you. But, I would venture to guess there have not been that many in Feb.
 Quoting: CowgirlK

For sure. our second long-track ef2-3+ storm already, and it's only february.
if it keeps up like this we're in for a wild spring.

Something is seriously wrong here. Not only is the amount of severe reports for this point in the year crazy, but most importantly placement.

Now tonight's placement of severe weather is more normal for this time of year, but still. In January and February most severe weather normally occurs in the deep south, gulf coast, and Florida. This picture paints a much different story so far though.

Yeah, it's early for this type of weather. We don't usually see this until late March/April

Another unusual feature of these storms seems to be how fast they are popping up - very sudden and very violent.

We had some strange weather today - they forecast rain but we had bizarre lightning storm. There was no buildup, but just sudden blinding flashes and rumbles that lasted several minutes and shook the house. There were only two. I'm used to "close lightning" strikes, we've had several trees hit over the years, but this was different because it was so spontaneous.
