For anyone traveling full time around the U.S. it is getting harder and harder to find places to park overnight for free.

everyone trying to either help or ridicule by suggesting truck stops or tricks or whatever are missing OP's point. he knows how to get by and what tricks to employ if he needs to, he's just warning everyone to wake up to the creeping loss of freedom of the public, on public land.

Thank you! Exactly. I can sneak "below the radar" as needed, but I/WE shouldn't have to! Everything is now being fence, posted or guarded. They are no longer asking you nicely to move on, they want your ID, registration, proof of insurance and one fuck up and you go to jail...

Just for wanting to find a place to sleep! Not for any crime other than wanting to stop in their land, guarded by their fucking goons.

Yes, I think there is a lot more actual danger out there than there used to be, too. I would never think of taking a trip and sleeping in the back of the van alone anymore. I used to just go where I wanted as an unaccompanied lady, with no fear.

There are just too many crazy and ruthless people out there any more. Unfortunately, nowadays, often they are the police. :-(

I am glad to get a real time update on the situation though, I did not know it was so bad. Though I should have known, shouldn't I?

Not just the parking problem, but there's a WMA in West VA that was used for hunting and hiking for years, and last year the state just decided to shut it down so it could be used for military drills. So now they have to do that all the time and this state acreage can't be used by the public anymore? What kind of bullshit is that?

I'm over 60 so I get half off in all of our state parks. Except weekends, only 10% off. I thought about getting a van but those will be to noticable to cops. SUV is better.

I like to travel around a bit and I have noticed that travel is increasingly being monitored within our own borders. I could tell you a story or two. It has been happening for years. I didn't know Walmart had started shutting down boondocking. That is a a real saver because you can shop for grub and supplies in the morning there and hit the road faster.

Folks this is truth! It's all over America. They build these huge parking lots to get people to buy, but once you have bought, move on!

And many of the parking areas are public property!

Think about this for a moment. Why are the cops SO concerned about people parking overnight? The crimes are not from 1 night transient parkers. There is crime everywhere, but they have decided to keep undesirables out instead of upholding the laws.

These thugs are nothing but the security guards of the wealthy. They watch public and private land like a "junk yard dog". And as soon as you are noticed, they are asking for your license and running it through the database.

But, you have committed no crime, not even a traffic stop. Most times it's not on a road or highway!

But, no one minds as long as they keep the "criminals" away...

Please understand. You are being made to believe that it is "more dangerous"! That's a lie to justify their nazi control tactics.

If people believe that these "drifters" are dangerous, they will turn a blind eye to such control because they are afraid!

I am amazed how most people see the cops/thugs as their saviours. They are only there to keep you doing what the elite want you to do...

Well, time to go. I slept last night in a strip mall parking lot. I was told to "move on" yesterday by the local sheriff deputies, 3 cars of them for one old 62 year old, short, fat guy. Of course, a license check and look around my truck. No traffic stop, private parking lot parked. Fine with me.

You need to get a van so that you can sleep in the back and no one can tell you're even there.

In BC by law you can camp anywhere on crown land for up to three weeks provided you build no structures. Then you have to move on.

BC also has a fantastic recreation site system although in some districts that has been privatized and you now have to pay. The current neo Liberal government tried to do away with them when they first came into power but in a lot of areas people fought back.

BC Hydro also provides an amazing system of free campgrounds.
