Exactly. We bought our house from a retired couple who were going on the road in an RV, to see the country before they died. They had been productive members of society for decades and paid plenty in tax dollars.

Not everybody on the road is a bum or a hobo.

My grandson drove across the US just to see the USA before he went back to college. Paid for the gas with money he had earned. He slept in his car to save money. He is not a bum. He had a right to do that, here in the USA.

When I was 18 I hitch hiked around the entire USA, stealth camped, pick up jobs, a little money and move on. Never even once was approached by the police over a period of many months.

Find a large park, state or national, and pitch a tent in the woods. I've done this several times. Even when hhaving a small fire its near impossible to find you, park rangers aren't going to hike 2 miles into thw forest at 1 am to see if someone is randomly back country camping there.

Ages ago a friend of mine and I drove out to CA from PA. We stopped for the night at some road side rest area and a sign clearly said 'no over night camping' etc. We went to sleep on the ground anyway. Woke up in the morning and the place was packed with people sleeping all over the place. The cops never came by.....

I know what the OP is talking about. Anywhere you go to rest you get a knock on the window and told to move along. It can be anywhere, parking lots, side of the road (even well off the road), public vacant land, pubic parks etc.. The cops generally crawl around these areas because they have nothing better to do at night.

Basically they want a fee out of people for everything anymore. Yes you can go to a hotel or pay a fee at a park, but why? Not everyone needs full service facilities. You can't simply pull into an empty field with no one around bothering no one, and within an hour or two blue lights are behind you. It's like this everywhere, unless you are in the middle of nowhere like Montana or someplace where enforcement is too spread out.

I remember being at a park and had just finished playing tennis for some leagues at night. Go to the car and got a phone call, and sat there talking for like 20 minutes and sure enough a cop pulls behind me to block me in and knocks on my window asking what I am doing. "Uhh, just talking".. He didn't harass me but it's like this everywhere. You can't even relax and talk and the phone for a little while.

Yes...This is out of control. We should always have land that can be used...Just to park and relax without being hassled.

I don't know it differently than that...amazes me that it ever was legal for you US'ers to just camp where you want, sleep in your car on supermarket carparks...that's all a no-no here, always has been. Probably they wouldn't notice if you slept in a car somewhere, although it's illegal, but camping just somewhere...? No dude.

So, where do you park your vehicle? I assume you drove to the park. It is the vehicles they are watching for.

But as the OP said, why should you have to sneak around? Why can't you just camp where you want without being hassled?

For me this is about having to do, think and live like everyone else. The laws, cops and the wealthy want you work at a good job you hate because THEY had/have to.

They want you to live in a stick built house like theirs and to believe what they believe.

It's comes down to conformity and if you don't conform they are afraid of you and they hate you.

They then have no problem with the cops and government treating these people any way they like.

This topic gets to the heart of who and what our slavery really is all about.

It's not about figuring a way to scam the system. It's about real freedom.

Think about it.

Unfortunately, there would be many of our "undocumented alien workers" utilizing every spot you might think of using if we didn't have the rules and policing you mention.

The compassion and depth of many people never eases to amaze me.

1) There are these thing called bullets. Also artillery shells. Also rockets. Also missiles. Your camper would not enjoy making their acquaintance.

2) If by unused you mean when there are no trains on that particular stretch of track, feel free to sleep on the tracks. I warn you though, the alarm is REALLY loud.

3) vagrancy laws suck, I'll agree to that. Should be able to camp on public land. Problem is that they almost inevitably become homeless settlements. While I'm okay with that, most municipalities are not.
