Unfortunately, there would be many of our "undocumented alien workers" utilizing every spot you might think of using if we didn't have the rules and policing you mention. Quoting: MuzzleBreak Here's a website that lists 10,000 free spots to park in US and Canada: [link to www.overnightrvparking.com] Lots of camping spots in State parks with electricity and waste dumping for $15/night. Plan ahead. The compassion and depth of many people never eases to amaze me. Where is your soul? You do have one, don't you? |

There was a time a few years ago when I was young when state parks were free to get in and only charged a few dollars to camp. Now state and national parks charge an entrance fee, then a camping few plus tax. Usually ends up being over $25 a night. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14802299 Almost all public lands east of the Mississippi are fenced and charge a camping fee. Yes, you can park "anywhere", but many areas are now posted with "no camping allowed in this area". Even Walmart is shutting down overnight parking in many areas. Don't even think about just pulling off the side of the road to sleep over night. You will get a knock on the window from some cop. Most shopping centers now have "no overnight parking" signs everywhere. Hey, I'm not a bum or trying to live off the public, but there is public land EVERYWHERE in America and it's all being closed off. Everywhere the land is either private and posted, or public and posted, owned by the some government agency (military, state, feds, nasa, etc.). The time will come when people are all wandering America and are told to "move along". Wait and see... Hmmm, well I guess since I sleep in my own bed in my own house I don't have to worry about cops knocking on my window. And if I'm traveling, well, I discovered many years ago they have these things called. . . wait for it. . . "hotels"! You can actually go into these buildings and rent living quarters complete with a bed, bathroom, TV, etc., for just one night if you want, and no cops show up to hassle you or tell you to move along. I know, it's amazing isn't it. It sounds like you should look into that. Idiot, you're so fucking proud of your little salary. I've got more money than you ever will, and I remember the freedom of the time when I was a child. It's better to be able to pull off when you feel like it and just pee next to your car (I'm a guy) and just get some sleep. Every 2 or 3 nites a motel is nice for a shower and a little TV. What OP says is real sad. I guess it's been getting like this since about 1980, the start of the "zero tolerance" society. |

Who made these rules? man i parked everywhere from parks, state parks, go in right before closing, get locked in and let out in the am. if i seen a lake, pull in, sleep, never gave it a thought. boat ramps, they are the best, they have grills. walmart last resort. when i needed a shower, i went to a homeless shelter, hot meal and a full bed. only one nighter at the shelters, they lock you in with a not so great crowd. i did it for months on end, if a cop said something, just move to the next town. i never sweated it for one second. once i did get a ticket at a state park, but even then they didn't wake me, left it under the wiper. never paid anything, just kept moving... what i hated was out in texas all the way to Ca. and back, kept getting pulled by the state troppers, about every 100 miles. they were looking for mexican. pain in the butt, all the questions. finaling stoped even answering those. buck man, take back what is yours. it's the peole who let them do it. not i, i had a blast. i swim every morning, pack and go. no big deal. had a few tight spots, but for the most of it, a walk in the park. don't fear the man, fear GOD, do what is right and do it well, i did. over 3 yrs, never went to jail, didn't even get ran off much... i seen the whole lower half of the usa, it was great. i even parked on the ocean where you have to pay and never no overnight. many nights, never a word, just play stupid and move on. no big deal... |

Due to high crime today, I'd be concerned if a stranger parked in front of my house overnight now too, I suppose. I'm one of the non-conformists. Decided to live full time in a class B motor home (extended self-contained Sportsmobile) while working FT in OC, California. Found places such as parks, libraries where you could "hang out" in the parking lots undisturbed until 10 pm, but after that you had to fan out into the neighhborhoods and empty industrial parks and go into stealth mode to sleep for 5 or 6 hours. I believe the cops know that you're there, but as long as your tags are clean and someone doesn't call and complain, they have bigger fish to fry. Discovered that there was this whole van-dwelling subculture right in the middle of suburbia. Easier to pull off In a smaller, newer RV. These are fixed income retirees, disabled, young adventurers, and the occasional working professional like myself -- a wide swath of folks. Some hobos too I guess. |

The time will come when people are all wandering America and are told to "move along". Wait and see... did you just start this traveling thing? what you're talkin about here has been goin on for a while, and gets worse by the year. what's funny is i notice people pay it no attention at all until it affects them or when someone like yourself needs a shoulder to cry on. Just remember this thread will be used for your venting and others feelin bad for you although absolutely nothin will be done about it. people will go on to the syrian thread and bitch about the US, jews and muslims all the while doin nothin about it. They'll pop back over to the greek's problems and do nothin but bitch about the government. then they'll come back to this and again do nothin but bitch about it while yellin TROLL at anyone that doesn't hold your hand to hear your problems. Your problem and the others i mentioned are all long time simmering problems and what's bein done about any of them? they get worse by the year because there's really only a handful of people that actually get involved to try and change things. most of us sit in front of our keyboards and bang the keys furiously with our witty banter and agree that you good...government bad. another example would be...i'll assume you or someone close to you doesn't have leukemia. do you know anything about leukemia? do you have to know anything about leukemia? is leukemia affecting you right now? if not...why should you know or care about leukemia? if you were to get it i bet you would want to dunk your head into the leukemia knowledge well to find out all you could though. you may even come on here and start a thread to bitch about how big pharma and the evil government are not putting enough research towards a cure too. most will now bang away on their keyboards again, callin me a troll, shill, government disinfo agent or whatever else AND i don't care. things are the way they are now because of our laziness and an attitude of what can i do and if it's not botherin me i don't care. it's just that now a days we can piss n moan about it right away through the internet AND STILL do nothin about anything but bitch. And that's really the thing that has increased the most...people's constant bitching. you would think that with all these geniuses that constantly belittle those on forums like these that disagree with the current feel good thread, ALL the worlds woes would be solved. it's okay though cause that's just how most people are, me included. The shit i'm involved in doesn't affect anyone here so why should they care? they're not gonna do anything about it anyways except give sympathy or bitch at me about it. Now...if anyone here really cared beyond the lip service they spew, they would give you their addresses/phone numbers and those of relatives that would let you park in their driveways or in front of their homes to help you out. there are people on glp spread out all across the US that could lend you a hand in that way, "if" they really cared. you said to watch the grapes of wrath...i have. many people then didn't want strangers on their property or parked in front of their businesses either. as for government property...that's another monster that we all are responsible for. collectively we stood by and let it happen...BUT we did bitch about it to strangers on the internet. doesn't that count? just remember though, most everyone in here did nothin but provide you with nothin but lip service and have no intention of lettin you park at their or their relatives homes. they will however be runnin along to the next threads to yell troll n shill while also doin nothin about the potential problem there either. Rest stops and other public parking/camping areas have long been targeted by the private parking sector as areas catering to criminals, in some weird logic they're making rest stops and surrounding areas safer by them being privatized, people charged to park(like most truck stops) and private security guards.
