I find it funny when I see that flag in the north, don't they know they lost the war.

Lost the war, but we don't lose the idea.

Confederacy was the 2nd war of independance, but your northern school teachers don't teach the truth. They call it a civil war since they won; but it was the first war since the revolution verse tyranny.

Lincoln was a tyrant dictator, and they should teach the truth in school.

Oooh, oooh, let's all get stirred up.

Pro/Con doesn't matter. Immaterial to the issues at hand.

Don't be so distracted by simple divide/conquer tactics.

I always reflect on this regarding Confederate flags, battle or otherwise: I've never seen one on a luxury vehicle.

The only reason the South lost was that Lee lost his right hand man Stonewall Jackson. He was accidentally shot at night by one of his own soldiers.

Douchebag. Did you know that many black troops fought for the Confederates? The Confederacy was about the preservation of a socio-political hierarchy, not about "blacks".

I agree completely. Alot of people, esp. Yankies like to think that the civil war was just about keeping slaves when in reality, that notion could not be further from the truth. The civil war was mostly about tax increases on everything comming in or out of the southern states and everything sold down here, (yes including slaves). Also, alot of people forget that the pilgrims ran away from england to come here to keep their liqour from bieng taxes unfairly.

Yes, that photo is real.

That was an actual sign that used to be in downtown reenville, Texas
which is about 45 miles east of Dallas.

Lincoln added slavery as an issue several years into the war because the North was losing the war. The people up North were becoming demoralized by all the dead young people being returned home to them. The war was not supposed to be a long one.

The war was initially started because of some new taxes/tariffs being shoved down the throats of the South......plus issues relating to the settling of the new western territories.

My kids have learned in elementary and middle school that Lincoln practically walked on water and is just a hero, that he freed the slaves, bla bla bla. This is NY state.

I made a few comments at home about the rest of the story but told them to be careful not to talk about it in school. Just don't discuss those issues at all. They'll retaliate with all their communist and psychological repression and punishment if you push back against this agenda.

Back in those days, people felt loyalty to their state.

The Constitution favored a strong local/state government and a weak central government. The framers had just finished a long war with such a government.....namely England.

Robert E. Lee left the Federal Army in response to a call by leaders in his home state Virginia. He was very sad about the outbreak of war.......but still felt loyalty to his home state......to help defend it.

“Have we seceded already?” asked Joseph Parker, professor emeritus of political science at the University of Southern Mississippi. “The execution is faster than I thought.”

Looks like Dixie needs an execution.

OMG, I love this quote from that article-

Parker recalled former Louisiana Gov. Earl Long’s words to political boss Leander Perez, “You can’t fight the feds. They have the atom bomb.”
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1461477

So are Parker and former Gov Earl Long both indicating they believe the US would actually use an atom bomb on its own people?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30981074

What they mean is the feds will order sent to your state standing up nuclear waste shipped in like from Kuwait and foreign lands to kill off your state people or at least make them high birth defects and ruin your health care state paid for.Like all the nuclear waste shipped into independent Idaho from U.S. Ecology via the U.S. Alabama ship.

[link to news.nationalgeographic.com]

Remember this when you eat all those Idaho potatoes.

Shipping nuclear waste is blackmail used to keep your congressman in line. I believe it was Dennis Kuccinich that pointed out this was being done years ago. This is the threatened nukes they are talking about...the depleted urnanium being bought from other countries to silence Americans. I believe we are buying some from Italy lately. Of course this was just on the internet.

Nope - in Greenville from the 1920s-1960s.

The slogan's original intent was to describe the richness of
the area's soil along with the kindness of its citizens.

However, the imputed racial overtones caused the later phrase
to be modified to "the Greatest People" in the early 1970s.

That said, on May 12, 2011, a WHITE buffalo was born in Greenville ;)
