Don't wanna scare you, but there is problem in understanding with 2012 DA 14
Till I remember, I hope i am mistaken... This is my school time story when we were learning, our professor told me this because my calculation were never correct using formulas.

"JPL program calculates orbit of object on the basis of center of earth and not from the surface of earth. So, every time we see physically and track object we must remove half the diameter of earth in order to locate exact location of visible object always remember to remove radius of earth and atmospheric disturbance in visibility before publishing your figures"

if I apply this reverse logic to 2012DA14. if JPL says object will pass 14000 miles from earth it means it will pass nearly 10000 miles from surface (earth's diameter is 7926 miles approx). However story does not end here as per ecliptic position of 2012 DA 14 it will be coming from below to above horizon, for public viewing it will be coming from south and will pass go to north. This is more bad news as middle as due to gravitational pull on middle of earth (gravity = acceleration) if applied speed of 2012 DA 14 will increase from his predicted speed of 28000 km/h to approx 30500 kms. This is incremental speed will reduce the distance by 9.81% approx between earth and object.

That means from naked eye and visibility point of view this object will pass only 9000 miles from above the earth. No doubt in my mind...

I wish i should be wrong, because this will be most closet asteroid ever in the history then. I am not sure those who have posted this thing in various article saying Nasa says knows this things or not, I just wish to be proven wrong.

And my own memory

Still Guys there can not be doom, Object is too small to cause problems, can reach earth and damage may be limited
to hardly 44145 acre land apprx.

Not a big deal, and guys please note that, if it hits it can hit only northern hemisphere and not southern due to ecliptic position of object.

see nasa site for more details...

so roughly, fly-by distance = approx 1 dia. of earth distance after accounting for the jpl formula?

not exactly fly by distance = JPL - 4000 miles approx.

and if speed increases then - acceleration too

I do believe that is what they are saying. You aren't wrong at all. They're padding the numbers so that people will rest easy, since there isn't even one thing they could do about an impact in time.

Will it hit?

No. We're actually pretty safe. Even if it does strike us, this isn't a world ending event, it would just be bad for anyplace it hits (or adjacent to that , if it strikes the water.)

So, over all this isn't a vast thing. But it is closer than the public is being led to believe. They'll probably mention that with a relieved chuckle after it goes by. On page eighteen of the local paper.

You can re-confirm the same, I am damn sure about the same. because earth is not total round object and if it is from surface from every point it will differ. e.g. from L 30 object is visible at 10000 miles L - 30 same will be visible at 14000 miles.

jpl takes into account the difference in center of the earth and surface. 14000 miles above surface is correct as the correct calculation puts it 17000~ miles above the center of the earth. You should really research instead of going off of a hunch. You would save yourself a lot of trouble.

Why has nobody explained the fact that JPL shows it closer on the 16th than the 15th? Yet everyone is freaking out about the 15th. If this thing hits, it will not be on the 15th, but the 16th. This worries me, why do they lie?

Oh dear, please correct your figures before posting. In none of Nasa sites it gives answers in miles, it always gives u AU's. Secondly if you rely on figures of them according to them it will pass through roughly 0.0002 AU or 0.09 LD. If 1 LD is 384,000 then 0.09 LD should be 34,000 miles appx, but all reports calming that it is 14000 miles. So, I am just saying if that figure is correct and from NASA when u use ur pair binoculars or structural viewing device do ween to look to 10,000 miles to view stone or not?

And yes doom is long gone, I am no more doomtard anyways happy ending is all we want... and such small piece of rock can not even trigger earthquake which we daily see on Disaster Management Sites.

Hope I am clear
