I wish the people trying to turn this into a political thread would shut up.

America is a HUGE country, and very sparsely populated outside of the cities. Of course there are going to be abandoned places. There always have been.

America is a big yard sale. The worldwide Mofia, in all its forms; Illuminati, Jewish, Italian, Russian, Chinese, British, and everything in between; THEY ARE HERE. They have bought and paid for all your representatives, media, protection agencies, and you name it. But if you add up all those and you add up all us....well you figure it out.

They have so much dirt on each other they will never unless...
It's like any crime syndicate in any city. They never rat on each other. They just work behind the scenes taking everything they can; it's that simple.

Forget about the Aliens, the Comets, the earthquakes, and all the other bullshit. It's all designed to distract you from the truth; your individual power.

This GLP thread will end shortly, I assure you.

Detroit in RUINS!

Second video is horseshit propaganda, oversimplifying complex issue. Not urbex! Otherwise, this is one of GLP's finest threads in the making. There a lot of beautiful abandoned property vids in this thread. Thanks OP!
 Quoting: thomowen20

If by horseshit; you mean 100% spot on, Then I agree.
It is the true story of intitlements and Union labor.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30444077

No, I mean the other, other kind of horseshit, the metaphorical type with the metaphorical stink. Oh, and btw, it's "entitlements", which interestingly enough was a legal term whose vernacular sense was employed by certain interests for the purpose of framing an argument.

Now for for the sake of decorum if you feel this subject is worth debating, post the video in a new thread and we can keep up the dialogue. As for this thread, it is perfect JUST the way it is, an urbex thread. So with that in mind...

Isnt it strange how quickly a place goes downhill once people leave it?

Its as though the place itself is alive, and when the people leave, the place loses its will to live.

Re: Abandoned Places - World Wide
i know where a great ghost town is. Abandoned when the mining companies left around 1910. Wonderful old buildings, houses and so many things just left behind. Tried not to disturb anything when I was there as a boy and leave everything as I had found it. To this day only the locals living about 30 mi. away and the government probably still know it's even there. I think that is great that it can be left alone.

Re: Abandoned Places - World Wide
This isn't in the United States but still pretty creepy. My husband and I were in Greece in 2011. We spent about 5 days on the island of Crete (in addition to spending time in Athens and Santorini) and we decided to go to this aquarium one day and we had to drive though this abandoned US military base to get there and the abandoned base turned out to be much more interesting than the aquarium! We spent most of the day exploring the abandoned base. There were no fences or police to keep us out. It was pretty creepy. Its' called Iraklion Air Station and it was abandoned by the US military in the early 1990s.

This is NOT my video, it's just something I found on YouTube, it shows much of what we explored.

Would be interesting to see how many of these are company towns that die after the industry gets over-regulated, dies out, gets replaced or the company has bad management.

I lived in Central Texas for a while; there are TWO HUNDRED ghost towns in Texas, officially.

But where'd everybody go?

I wonder just how WRONG ARE the national population figures we get. It appears to me, this nation despite unlimited immigration, is emptying out.

Still, housing costs are very high.
 Quoting: Pinocchia 34093678

I live in metro Boston. Trust me, there's no shortage of people here.

And it's interesting, even though we have many, many old building, entire neighborhoods that go back to the Victorian era and earlier, many pre-revolution buildings that pre-date the existence of the United States, there are very few abandoned properties here. I know there are some abandoned military properties, especially along the coast and on off shore islands, and Boston has some disused subway tunnels and stations that for whatever reason were shut down 50 or so years ago, but otherwise this area remains remarkably intact.

There are abandoned mental hospitals all over the U.S. They date from the period when JFK signed a law that mandated integrating mental patients into community settings and out of in-patient mental hospital care. There were many scandals regarding how badly mental patients were treated in those hospitals. They emptied out and closed mostly in the late 60s-into the 70s. Both Democrat [liberal?] and Republicans [conservative??] instituted these changes. Now today you just see a lot of mentally ill people homeless or just all doped up and catatonic.

You know, this is a huge country, ans what's seen in these videos and pics is just a very tiny part of it. And Detroit is an extreme example [unequaled] of urban decay. But I will say this: It's very difficult for people to live and work in most rural areas of America today, and they are in bad shape everywhere. Somebody mentioned the hundreds of abandoned towns in Texas and wondered where the people went. They went to Houston, Dallas, or some other big city metro area. It's the same everywhere else.

Thanks OP!

I have recently been looking at these sites realizing how this country has been abandoened like this. With all the homeless families in this economy, it would be wonderful if there was an organization to have those will and able to work to restore some of these places to use as homes/apartments.

Here is a site, with a clickable map up the Hudson River, of abandoned mansions/estates, factories, schools etc. in the Hudson River Valley of New York State:

[link to www.hudsonvalleyruins.org]

They state is increasingly in a hurry to knock these down suddenly. What a shame!
