Re: Moving to Central America with entire family from the US
Hmm, well..I guess I should clarify that we aren't going to Nicaragua to specifically get away from doom. We are going because as a family(12 of us strong)..we feel that we could make a big impact. I'm not going to worry about some catastrophic disaster, because it seems every single place I've lived I've had to seek shelter from either hurricanes, tornadoes, or earthquakes. I'm sure there are much safer places to go to bunker down, but that's not really our intentions. We want to help people, the locals that my family know are good people and the kids live very happy lives, except for poor education systems.

bring some sun block or you could have your skin surgically removed first or try to shoot down the sun.

i dont think they sell ziploc bags down there either in case you want to harvest some recreational powders from the local fauna .

dont drink too many coconut water from a guy named

carlos rodriguez emmanuel colombus, ok?

also, there are lots of pigmy tribe members tired of you tourists inviting them to the Fair and not being tall enough to get on most of the rides, they become bitter sordid little men.

stay away from the ATM machine
on octputl and Nahuatl street.

you can only withdraw bottle caps.

Sounds like you may have gotten a hold of similar coconut water as I did in Costa Rica. That is powerful, powerful stuff. Lessons learned, ha.

O.P.

Research Chagas. Don't leave any stone unturned about things concerning health you should know about.

This is not to rain on your possible upcoming parade. Just to mention one more thing you should have on your radar, what the bug looks like, so you are aware and can take countermeasures.

As far as the rest of what has been posted in this thread....

We have a spot picked out.
We are working on a permanent transfer.
It is coming along nicely enough.

I would never ballyhoo it.
The fewer Americans there the better.
That's just what I feel of those in the country I was born in, having been in the, "Wake Up Club," since the 70s, often to derision.

I've done my, "duty." Taken the slings and hits.
Including being blackballed... something particularly easy to accomplish in this computer age.

Nope. Americans let it happen. I don't want a bunch of them showing up where I intend to be.

Word? Don't ballyhoo you place to be.
Keep it on the low-key unless you want a bunch of Americans to show up there and phuque it up.

Re: Moving to Central America with entire family from the US
I have been looking for a county to retire to for the last 6 months or so. As of now I have settled on Panama. I hope to be there in about a year.

I think if I had a family I would go to Uruguay. That is the safest county and has a temperate climate without the tropical disease.

You have a big advantage with family knowing Spanish. That is my big limitation. I am trying to learn as fast as possible.

If you get international health insurance what would stop you from moving from county to country until you found what is right for you?

That is my plan. Learn Spanish, get international health insurance, then start in Panama.

Also, I understand that if you are a resident of a foreign county and live 330 days outside the USA you do not owe federal tax. Panama has a retired resident visa.

Most Americans cannot do this. More than half return to the US. I personally look forward to the adventure.

Costa Rica!!!

Costa Rica constitutionally abolished its army permanently in 1949.[7][8][9] It is the only Latin American country in the list of the world's 22 older democracies.[10] Costa Rica has consistently been among the top Latin American countries in the Human Development Index (HDI), ranked 69th in the world in 2011.[6]

Costa Rica was cited by the United Nations United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 2010 as one of the countries that have attained much higher human development than other countries at the same income levels,[11] and in 2011 was highlighted by UNDP for being a good performer on environmental sustainability and having a better record on human development and inequality than the median of their region. It was also the only country to meet all five criteria established to measure environmental sustainability.[6] The country is ranked fifth in the world, and first among the Americas, in terms of the 2012 Environmental Performance Index.[12]

In 2007, the Costa Rican government announced plans for Costa Rica to become the first carbon-neutral country by 2021.[13][14][15] The New Economics Foundation (NEF) ranked Costa Rica first in its 2009 Happy Planet Index, and once again in 2012.[16][17] The NEF also ranked Costa Rica in 2009 as the greenest country in the world.[18] In 2012 Costa Rica became the first country in the American continent to ban recreational hunting after the country’s legislature approved the popular measure by a wide margin.[19]

Better yet, sell your shit and move to north east Nevada... You can light off a small nuke on your acreage and nobody would care.
