O.P.

Research Chagas. Don't leave any stone unturned about things concerning health you should know about.

This is not to rain on your possible upcoming parade. Just to mention one more thing you should have on your radar, what the bug looks like, so you are aware and can take countermeasures.

As far as the rest of what has been posted in this thread....

We have a spot picked out.
We are working on a permanent transfer.
It is coming along nicely enough.

I would never ballyhoo it.
The fewer Americans there the better.
That's just what I feel of those in the country I was born in, having been in the, "Wake Up Club," since the 70s, often to derision.

I've done my, "duty." Taken the slings and hits.
Including being blackballed... something particularly easy to accomplish in this computer age.

Nope. Americans let it happen. I don't want a bunch of them showing up where I intend to be.

Word? Don't ballyhoo you place to be.
Keep it on the low-key unless you want a bunch of Americans to show up there and phuque it up.

I can tell you anything you need to know, but tomorrow, I am going to bed now. Lived in CR for 3 + yrs, stayed in Nicaragua for 2 months. I will give you advice tomorrow. I have been considering going back but there are legitimate concerns keeping me from doing so (I have 2 kids, 6 and 8 and homeschooled in CR in 2011-2012. It's not what you think. But if you know wtf you are doing, it's doable, and you probably don't.

And yes, before I go to sleep, CR has become very expensive, and Nica is FULL of abject poverty, try going to a gas station and seeing 7 yr old girls begging, oh sure, my Nica friends deal with it just fine, they are numb, which is sickening in itself, but the raw deal is, the poverty there is on par with African countries, so sure, come enjoy the pristine beaches, but bring your hard heart and your liver of steel cuz you will need them or you will suffer. I know I did. I hang with the wealthy there, I know what I am talking about. It would disgust you. Try living there and not becoming an alcoholic or cokehead. You dreamers know nothing. Costa Rica, lol, also will eat you ALIVE. Specific questions? Send them my way. I am a 39 yr old gringa with 2 gringa daughters, don't listen to these single old dudes who are loving it up down there with hookers and Guaro, listen to me. I will answer your questions tomorrow, my husband is Tico, I know what the deal is, don't be mislead....

Re: Moving to Central America with entire family from the US
I have read all of the comments. I am moving with my 4 children ages 7,9, 12 and 14 to Ecuador. There are decisions that need to be made regarding their education and safety that are unique to parents.

I have traveled throughout Latin America, and can tell you that the perception that all Spanish speakers are dark skinned with black hair is silly. My daughters stand out slightly, but not that much- with dishwater blonde hair and green eyes. People forget that these people speak Spanish because they were settled by Spain- whom have similar coloring to other European nations (read: white).

There is a reality as far as safety. I was kidnapped, assaulted, and held hostage- forced to hand over all of my belongings and money. This does occur- however, according to the embassy, the kidnappers will not attack anyone with young children. So, the kids are almost a 'safety net' for you.

I am moving to Ecuador as a single woman- however, myself and my children are bilingual and bicultural. They 'blend in' to Latin culture and do well.

There are a lot of cosiderations to make and culture shock is very real. IF you aren't from that country and have never even left the US- be prepared that culture shock is far more profound than you probably realize.

Please look at my profile- and feel free to write to me.

The above is not true. I know a woman who was bound and gagged by 4 armed masked assailants when she was 7 months pregnant, in Costa Rica, they stole everything, kids/pregnancy, none of that means anything to them, they want what you have, and it doesn't matter if you are foreign or not, my native friends there were assaulted too, killed, no, but everything possible taken from them, yes, and YES, youngsters I didn't know KILLED on their way home from work at night. What you will not be able to live with is the fact that most of these crimes go unsolved.

I am sure that all those advocating to go to a Latin American country are idealistic white liberal women. You want to "Blend" and shit like that, good luck, the natives there don't forget how Europeans conquered them and raped their foremothers.
Banned as usual.

“It is far easier to be a weakling than to be a Real Man. Were the Earth less harsh or the circumstances of life less austere, man would destroy himself before the shrine of the languid goddess. Only Real Men can with safety destroy the tangled forests and wilderness of Earth and make from them gardens, but will those who inherit the gardens be Real Men? The law decrees that they must be, or the wilderness will reclaim its own.”

The only SAFE PLACE is Canada. Small parts of BC. Alberta. Saskatewan and Manitoba. Just stay away from bodies of water and the Northern parts which will flood eventually.

No need for armored vehicles and bodyguards.

You would never be allowed to legally immigrate to Canada if you are American citizens and not being expatriated by a company located in Canada.

Even then, it would be a long while until you would be landed immigrants and able to work legally in your professions.

The U.S has made it nearly impossible for its own citizens to use Canada as a safe haven for a better quality of life.

Its a shame really.

Re: Moving to Central America with entire family from the US
My multi-generational household is thinking of making a HUGE change. We are seriously making a big plan to move to Nicaragua in the next few months. Has anyone here ever done this? As far as things go, my biggest concern is that I have three children. Ages 11, 6, and almost 5. One is fully vaccinated, and the other two have only gotten two(hep B and tetanus). They are all healthy, and have never had any major issues. I'll of course do a lot more research on diseases and potential vaccines to get before going, but we've been mulling this idea over for the last few years. My husband lived in Costa Rica as a child, and he has very fond memories of living abroad. I'm nervous about it, because I've never even been out of the country, but my in-laws do frequent missions over there, and they are the reason we are thinking of making this a permanent thing for our whole family.

So has anyone ever done this with their whole families. It will be 12 of us moving to a large house with land, and we'll grow a lot of our own food, and start a business down there. My children already picked up a lot of German very easily this year(we home school), and my Mother in-law, father in-law, and husband all speak fluent spanish, so I don't doubt that my children and I could learn the language easily.

Any tips, ideas, or anything else that could be helpful before making such a huge change?

I knew a guy 6 or 8 years ago from Honduras. he was telling me one night about how he had just got a call from his sister, his father had died and left him the family farm. he refused to go back and claim it. He gave it to his sister.

He was telling me how unsafe Central America is. at night in Honduras when the sun goes down you don't dare go outside. the night is ruled by the criminals who will kill you for 10 pesos. The cops are just as bad. They'll kill you for 10 pesos.

Both his brothers were murdered and there was no way he was ever going back. I'd say at least go and vacation there first and check it out.

Hmm, well..I guess I should clarify that we aren't going to Nicaragua to specifically get away from doom. We are going because as a family(12 of us strong)..we feel that we could make a big impact. I'm not going to worry about some catastrophic disaster, because it seems every single place I've lived I've had to seek shelter from either hurricanes, tornadoes, or earthquakes. I'm sure there are much safer places to go to bunker down, but that's not really our intentions. We want to help people, the locals that my family know are good people and the kids live very happy lives, except for poor education systems.

If that's what you're doing it for I would seriously consider Liberia in Africa.

#1 They consider themselves quasi Americans and they speak English. Most don't hate Americans at all or Whites for that matter.

#2 They are vey loyal. You make a few friends there and they'll die to protect you. They have great respect for anyone brave enough to visit them.

#3 The country is very Christian in many places. If you fit into that, you'll be considered a brother there. You'll mett all kinds of people who will treat you like family.

#4 There isn't any place in the world that needs more help than Liberia, and any place that would be easier to help if anyone had the courage to go there and try.

Enjoy the shitty national foods, you'll be spending lots on imported food from the U.S.!

Enjoy the skin parasites that crawl into bed with you to burrow in your skin because their all their in the tropical climate!

Enjoy the U.S. Dollar going up and down every week, you'll notice it bigtime! And it's mostly going DOWN in value there!

Enjoy the natives either using you for being a American, or avoiding you altogether because you are NOT one of them!

Enjoy the corrupt police, street thugs, and kidnapings! Yup, for REAL.

You will realize after about two years that you are not saving much, that your body is sick of intestinal parasites and antibiotics you will need to get by there because it's not the U.S.A.!

You'll be back. I know what I'm talking about. I retired and moved to Costa Rica, then Panama, then the hell with it I'm going home!!

All these things should scare me, but it doesn't. I think sometimes, it'll be easier to just stay here and make a nice comfortable life. Of course it would, and I wouldn't mind that. I'll visit maybe when my family moves there for a while, and see how it is. I'd never rush into it, I've read a lot about the crime, and that is my biggest concern. /sigh I don't want to be a failure to the human race, I want to help people. Maybe I'll go get my nursing degree so I can help people that way. My kids mean more to me than my ego(and sad to say other hungry starving children), and I don't want to put them in harms way. At least when my family moves down there, I'll be in a perfect position to donate to a cause that I know is going straight to the people that need it, instead of some sideways organization.

Still, I thank you all for the input..negative and positive. It does seem to be a trend on the more negative things. Here we take for granted the simple things of clean fruit and good healthcare.

I'll find my purpose, and when I do..there will be no stopping me.

I am moving to a place that I am certain all of the USA closed minded paranoid pussies would not consider setting foot in even though it is paradise and better than anywhere in the USA at 1/5 the cost. It is even safer than most USA cities. Not going to mention the place because I ain't giving away my secret.

You have GMO's and bad health care in the USA.

Clean fruit in the USA? You still need to wash the pesticides off like anywhere else in the world.

Health care is great in any big city in Central America. I know from experience. Did not have to wait in line for anything. Cheap too.

Re: Moving to Central America with entire family from the US
Go to Zeta talk and look up what earth changes are possible after this "earth change" thing. You may want to move to Idaho...NOT into central or southern America.

Lots of places are going under the water.

But many want to argue...
