I'm anything BUT joking. Yeah, people here at GLP have different ideas of what "freedom" is. But they still yearn for freedom. GIVE THEM TIME! The racists and homophobes CAN'T HELP but come around to true freedom.

freedom is not just one directional or two directional it is all directional. true freedom is that they are being doing saying what they like. your freedom is to disagree with them and if you have the power to, to censor them or silence them or threaten them with laws. That is your freedom to do. but to say that true freedom is that which is for instance "not racist".. what is you argument for that? Why is true freedom, as opposed to.. what? false freedom? that which is not racist?
freedom, at its base, is silent on what is truly or falsly itself because by obvious self evidence, all that exists has freely become so.
Freedom for ALL. Freedom to be a racist/homophobe. And yet obligation to respect THEIR freedom.
Think what you like but you're obliged to respect to freedom and rights of others.

but what you have assumed is that racists are not ALREADY CONSISTENT. you have assumed that they are not holding that which is true freedom.
my dear, what I am arguing is that they already do. Freedom is a state of mind in the observer in that we observe that freedom is already there.
you think that just because someone is racist they are not being "true freedom"?

and remember there is a difference between BEING and GIVING. And as for giving... freedom cannot be given, it is a state of mind.
A racist can be "truly free". A homophobe can be the same.
But public and private are two different things.
For example, I am a business owner. I am free to hire who I wish.
Though it's completely hypothetical, let's say:
I like whites and want to employ them exclusively.
I hire whites.
However, I certainly can't argue that other businesses might want to hire blacks. That's their right. FREEDOM.
Say I like gays (and I do). But say I like them exclusively (I don't but for the sake of argument), I only hire gays. That's my right.
But I can't be offended that others might hire only straights. FREEDOM.
Freedom (in the Libertarian tradition) is liberty to do what one wishes so long as it:
1. does not breach the consent of another person(s).
2. does not breach a contract (meeting of sound minds).
