BUT this whole thing has really struck me as pretty significant and a pretty big deal. My first thought when I heard it was what many of you thought: The last pope is coming. I think there is definitely more to it than is being said. Re: the black pope -- I wonder what connotations the word had when Malachy was writing his prophecies. Could he have even imagined a black man as pope? Or would it be like us imagining an alien as pope? He lived what, about 1000 years ago? I believe (doesn't mean I am right) that even prophets were limited to describing things within their own worldly context. If I saw something alien and unusual in a vision, I would have to describe it with terms I knew and used and that my audience would understand. Just thinking "out loud" about what "black" might mean. |
