Re: BREAKING- Pope Benedict resigning at the end of the month!
"The oddsmakers still believe that the next pope is more likely to be African according to Paddy Power, Ireland’s leading bookmaker, who has come out with a list of “papabile,” those considered papal material.

Favorite is Cardinal Francis Arinze of Nigeria, who is 15/8 (bet eight to win fifteen), while in second place is Cardinal Peter Turkson of Ghana at 9/4.

That’s two top Africans in the top two spots according to the bookmaker’s odds."

And here's a GLP-appropriate Bible verse (atheists may read, too):

God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong.

"For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.

This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another." -- Galatians 5:14-26

Re: BREAKING- Pope Benedict resigning at the end of the month!
I found this article and thought it was enlightening to me at least..

Pope Benedict XVI Marks 50th Anniversary of the Second Vatican Council

October 11,2012
The anniversary comes as the church is fighting what it sees as a wave of secularism erasing the Christian heritage of the West, and competition for souls from rival evangelical churches in Latin America and Africa. Clerical sex abuse scandals, debates over celibacy for priests, open dissent among some priests and a recent Vatican crackdown on liberal nuns in the U.S. have also contributed to erode the church’s place in the world.

Re: BREAKING- Pope Benedict resigning at the end of the month!
VATICAN CITY - Pope Benedict stunned the Roman Catholic Church, including his closest advisers on Monday when he announced he would stand down in the first papal abdication in 700 years, saying he no longer had the mental and physical strength to run the Church through a period of major crisis

Verbatim from his mouth, major shit is coming this way.
This is from a mayor news agency REU*** whose link i can´t embed here.

You have been given a clear and unequivocal warning.

2920 krisis kree’-sis

perhaps a primitive word; TDNT-3:941,469; n f

AV-judgment 41, damnation 3, accusation 2, condemnation 2; 48

1) a separating, sundering, separation
1a) a trial, contest
2) selection
3) judgment
3a) opinion or decision given concerning anything
3a1) esp. concerning justice and injustice, right or wrong
3b) sentence of condemnation, damnatory judgment, condemnation and punishment
4) the college of judges (a tribunal of seven men in the several cities of Palestine; as distinguished from the Sanhedrin, which had its seat at Jerusalem)

Most times in the New Testament the word judgment is translated from the Greek word krisis.

Remember how Satan tested Job? It'll be like that. They are not the good guys, but they do God's will against their own.

According to father Federico Lombardi, Benedict will not take part in the conclave to elect a new pope, after resigning, the (former) pope will move to a summer residence near Rome. Later, he plans to live in a former monastery within Vatican territory.

Vatican Radio have the statement online:

Full text of Pope's declaration

Dear Brothers,
I have convoked you to this Consistory, not only for the three canonizations, but also to communicate to you a decision of great importance for the life of the Church. After having repeatedly examined my conscience before God, I have come to the certainty that my strengths, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry. I am well aware that this ministry, due to its essential spiritual nature, must be carried out not only with words and deeds, but no less with prayer and suffering. However, in today’s world, subject to so many rapid changes and shaken by questions of deep relevance for the life of faith, in order to govern the bark of Saint Peter and proclaim the Gospel, both strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months, has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me.....

See, I'm just having a hard time buying this bullshit. ALL the Popes have been freaking old. They are ALWAYS old because that's just the way it goes. The Pope to resign in was in the 1400s and it was a hell of a lot older to be old the last 600 years than it is in the 21st century. Sorry, I am just not buying the "I'm old and don't have the strength for this" crap. How come no other Pope ever resigned for these issues???? They have all been old and the bulk of them lived during a time where medicine and living standards were far lower than what this Pope has.

In previous centuries an old frail Pope stayed at home with assistants and nuns taking care of daily life. Many Popes have died of old age. This is different because he breaks with tradition. He talks about strength of mind and of body as necessary to the adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry.

Is this a prophetic message by no other than the Pope that a vigorous man is needet in the times ahead ? Maybe.

Re: BREAKING- Pope Benedict resigning at the end of the month!
I could see him needing to resign if he had Alzheimer disease or something similar where he absolutely could no longer fulfill his duties. I knew someone who died from Alzheimer, and no way they could have functioned in any role with responsibilities, let alone as such a high profile leader.

BUT this whole thing has really struck me as pretty significant and a pretty big deal. My first thought when I heard it was what many of you thought: The last pope is coming. I think there is definitely more to it than is being said.

Re: the black pope -- I wonder what connotations the word had when Malachy was writing his prophecies. Could he have even imagined a black man as pope? Or would it be like us imagining an alien as pope? He lived what, about 1000 years ago? I believe (doesn't mean I am right) that even prophets were limited to describing things within their own worldly context. If I saw something alien and unusual in a vision, I would have to describe it with terms I knew and used and that my audience would understand. Just thinking "out loud" about what "black" might mean.

Re: BREAKING- Pope Benedict resigning at the end of the month!
I first wrote this in 2005 on a site full of people who are above top stupid and again, repeatedly on this site, including 2005. People laughed at me, but, today, Turkson is the favourite.

Here's what I wrote...

Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson fits all the prophecies and the intents of the Catholic Church should the current sick Pope die.

- The Catholic Church have a clear cut record of giving the Papacy to those from weak and small countries to redress political clout. Turkson comes from Ghana.
- There is a move afoot to have a Thrid World Pope.
- The Catholic Church gives the papacy alternatively to old men and to young men, hence the next should be young. Turkson is the second youngest.
- Turkson has been close to the current Pope and his views on contraception.

- Prophecy says that the next Pope will be "Peter the Roman". Turkson went to train at a religious institution in Rome. As a result, in his own home town in Ghana, he is ALREADY nicknamed "Peter The Roman"

- Another prophecy says that the last Pope of all time will be "The son of a Turk". Peter's name is literally "Turk-son"
- Another prophecy state that a Pope will move the seat of the Pope to Avignon. Avignon AIr is a major airline in Ghana.
