temperature matters too
volumes are generally corrected to 15 degrees Celsius.

If gas temp less than 15 and assume it is metered properly, you will get more gas.

If greater than 15 you get less.

In Canada there is a regulator that tests for octane and quantity. If a pump meters wrong big fine. Octane too.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32877835

That doesn't make a 25% difference. Temp might make a 1% difference.

Makes me wonder... I did that once with a 2l coke bottle at a 7/11. I was out of gas and it was all I had. The lady in the store came running out and informed me it was against the law to pump into anything but an approved can. She was like in a panic which I couldn't grasp at the time. Her reaction didn't seem to fit the situation. She made me buy a gerry can inside.

Now I guess I know why.

That's why you pump the gas into a approved can while recording it.

Then take it home , and pour the gas into a proper measuring device while recording it , then place the video on youtube .

Out the stations that you bought the gas from as criminals that don't have their pumps calibrated.

People stop buying gas there . Justice served until they have better business practices.

Last project I worked on used 2x4's that was from the dude's barn... they were old, but still in excellent shape... His grandpa prolly bought them in 1949 lol exaggeration of course... but they were old.

thanks for the heads up on the 2x4's I was actually gonna buy some this spring... guess i'll go to a local saw mill instead of lowes.

cos I want 2 inches by 4 inches lol

Everything has shrunk... candy bars, toliet paper rolls, water bottles used to be 24 ounces... now they are 16 ounces... everything has shrunk.

So why not gas...

You can buy 2x4s but they are not "dressed". After they dress them they do lose size. This is not a secret or a conspiracy, it's to make sure they are nice and straight after seasoning or curing.

Fucking hell, when did GLP get so fucking stupid. Ask any builder about it.

I suppose I'm a "shill" now. I remember when GLP used to know what that word meant. These days it's just anyone who disagrees with anyone. Like how "epic" just means "good" now.

In Texas there were A TON of trucks that drove around and tested pumping calibration. They'd fine the shit our of the pump owner if he was under pumping/ over charging...

I've tried it. It doesnt melt... sure storing gas in a milk jug for months on end might not be a smart idea...

but if you need a quick way to transport gas from a pump to someone who ran out of gas a few miles away a milk jug works...

I've done it for folks on many occasions.
I've also carried gas in a milk jug to run my chain saws when i didnt have the money for a 13 dollar jug.

My saws run just fine to this day... I actually used the shit out of it this morning and it fired up like a champ...

the jug wont melt right away... its a process that doesnt happen quickly. it takes time.

Btw i have smoked and pumped gas...
filled up saws, mowers, etc etc with a cigarette, even cigars in my lips

Gas is very fucking flammable... sure...

But its not the most explosive or flammable substance known to man...

Have you ever handled gas outside of pumping it into you car?

i'd guess not.

I dont recommend any of you fuck heads try this...

You might fuck up and get hurt or hurt someone... I was 10 when I did this...

I wouldnt wanna recreate it... even understanding what happened and "how it works"

I still wouldnt want to risk it... but it serves a lesson none the less...

when I was 10 years old I got the bright idea to create this big fucking explosion... way back in the middle of no where... miles from anyone...

so i took a candle and tied it to a rope pulley...

rigged it just right so it would not burn my rope...

ran the rope 50 feet away and from what i deemed safe... i lowered the light candle into a 5 gallon bucket full of gas...

I was all wide eyed ready for the explosion of my life...

you want to know what happened when the flame hit the gas?

Nothing

it put it the fuck out... my fiery flaming candle went out..

I was like wtf

bullshit you say?

The open bucket dispersed the fumes and reduced the overall explosive/flammable properties of the gas...

The liquid its self is flammable... but the fumes are 10 times more flammable and thats what produces most of your gas fires/explosions the fumes not the actual gas.

smoke that mother fucker

easier more practical less suspicious way of doing this

use a regular jar.

fill it up a litre

go home and measure it.

Be sure to use a glass jar.

for all you full fucking retards scratching at your nuts cause op used a milk jug. Go use a 1 gallon red gas can and pour that 1 gallon of gas into a 1 gallon milk jug and compare that sample from 5 different stations.

Ok YOU FREAKS.

HDPE you smart arse, I don't see many milk jugs made from high density plastic... Do you???

Have you ever seen any milk jugs melt before your eyes after being exposed to gas?

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

No, because it doesnt melt before your eyes, plus I'm not that stupid to even try... why don't you try it and report back with your findings

The liquid its self is flammable... but the fumes are 10 times more flammable and thats what produces most of your gas fires/explosions the fumes not the actual gas.

smoke that mother fucker

i have shown people on many occasion that you can put a lit cigarette out in petrol. but still, i wouldn't recommend your average idiot try this.

Have you any clue to what gas will do to a pop bottle?

It will dissolve the plastic within a minute!

She was doing you a favour!

i dunno, maybe it's a regulation/fear thing with the gas stations. whenever there's a spill it's a huge freakin' deal even when it's a very small amount, it needs to be logged, reported, paperwork etc. maybe the pumps are set to shut off little early in case of system break down. i mean rly who pumps one gallon of gas? even people just looking to fill their lawn mower don't usually do such a thing. Did you wiggle the handle and shit? make sure all the gas was out of the hose? lol

My truck holds exactly 17 gallons. When I top it off it is exactly that each time. Just saying. Unless my tank is actually 14 gallons or something. Seems like a tough scam to pull with all the old vehicles. People would notice any difference over the years and bust their county auditor. I for one pay close attention to what I pay for

They don't make 17 gallon tanks, and the tank hose wont hold 2 gallons.

even if they did, who uses all their gas before refueling? he's the second poster to say something like that. if it was completely empty, you wouldn't be able to drive it to a gas station. idiotic.

Utter bull shit. The fumes would be plenty strong near the surface and there is no way to put the wick into the liquid without going throuh the fumes.
