As the title says.

I posted a firearm for sale. A favor for my father who is trying to get rid of it.

I was told it was serious violation of company policy and was sent home for the day, and left in limbo wondering if I still have a job or not.

People sell everything from that bulletin board. Why are firearms so taboo?

This sucks. I haven't had to look for a job in 8 years.

That really sucks you might be fired. Hopefully they won't.

Personally, I would never post a gun for sale at work though. I would try other avenues before posting it on the work bulletin board.

I would suggest that you ask for a copy of your companies policy manual. If it's not listed in the policies then I'd fight the termination.

Sure hope things get better for you hf

Shit, OP. Our local Bulletin Board magazine features an entire section on firearms.

I had some reservations. The only reason I went ahead was because there are many firearms enthusiasts that work at my company. I didn't bring the gun onto company property. Just a photo of it.

This completely irrational on the company's part, in my opinion.

FREEDOM OF SPEECH:
Alan Isaacman
The People Vs Larry Flynt
"Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, you've heard a lot here today and I won't try to go back over it all. But you have to go back in that room and make some decisions and there is one thing I want to make very clear to you before you do. I'm not trying to convince you that you should like what Larry Flynt does. I don't like what he does. But what I do like is... that I live in a country... where you and I can make that decision for ourselves. I like that I live in a country where I can pick up Hustler magazine... read it if I want... or throw it in the trash, if that's where I think it belongs. Or better yet I can express my opinion by not buying it. I like that right. I care about it. And you should care about it, too... because we live in a free country. We say that a lot, but sometimes we forget what that means, so listen again. We live in a free country. That is a powerful idea. That's a magnificent way to live. But there is a price for that freedom, which is that sometimes... we have to tolerate things that we don't necessarily like. So go back in that room... where you are free to think whatever you want to think... about Larry Flynt and Hustler magazine. But then ask yourselves if you want to make that decision for the rest of us... because the freedom that everyone in this room enjoys... is, in a very real way, in your hands. If we start throwing up walls against what some of us think is obscene... we may wake up one morning and realize... that walls have been thrown upin places we never expected... and we can't see anythingor... do anything. And that's not freedom. That is not freedom. So, be careful. Thank you."

Where did/do you work? (At least the field)

I agree with the posters about demanding to see the the official company policy. If there isn't a specific rule against it, and you work for a large company, I would talk to the boss of the person who sent you home.

Yes.

If there is no WRITTEN POLICY you should in the good.

And the case is stronger if firearms were sold previously as noted.

If it is just a knee-jerk reaction due to the current 'environment' then they owe you an apology. It could even be a constitutional issue since they are attempting to 'infringe' on the 2nd Amendment. I would believe that once the company lawyers recognized this this should go away.

This issue in general is why a lot of companies do not host 'swap and shop' board any more.

Did you see specifically printed in theodicy of no firearms sale?

Had an incident at work where a girl did follow policy on something though she thought it was odd, so she documented the
Olicy and what she did to cover her own ass. The boss bitched at her, she said it was according to policy. The boss re wrote the policy and sent her a copy. Now this girl has proof at 11:35 the policy was this and at 12:02 policy was that.

Your boss may not have a case if it is not specifically written down prior to the ad.

I hate to be the one to tell you, but you're fucked. Given the state of the country today, I assume you do not have a contract with your employer, do not belong to a union, and live in a "right to work" state...

Correct?

In a "right to work" state, your employer can fire you at any time, for any reason that is not explicitly illegal (discrimination due to gender, race, religion, disability, etc...), and you have ZERO legal recourse.

Note, however, that this sort of policy is what half the country is fighting for... ironically, the very same people who obsessively guard their second amendment rights.

Ironic, no?

On what grounds? you have a case for wrongful dismissal, and that is just start.

This anti gun liberal madness is getting way out of hand.

I wish you the best of luck in sorting this out.

Hope you had the sense to due any of the following...
1. Record the phone conversation.
2. Lookup your states phone recording laws
3. Not answer the phone and make them send you a certified letter.
4. Not anwswer the phone and show up for work the next day with a micro-cassette recorder, ready to record all verbal exchanges.

In the court of law it only matters what you can admit into evidence. Always remember that. Never send a letter unless it is notarized (proof of what it contains) and registered/certified (proof of delivery).

Because when it comes time for trial every company man gets amnesia.
