What story do you want to tell your children?
I encountered a student today who, in some respects, has no useful way to process information.

I gave him the metaphor that he was making a cake.

That while he may not like eggs or salt or flour individually, he certainly liked cake.

I went through the process of making a cake and letting him imagine the process from start to finish.

I told him that he probably learns more than he thinks he does, and that he was in the mixing stage of the elements...(he is in the 10th grade).

But what I am really thinking about now is how lack of imagination hurts us and how demonized the word has become.

I say demonized; it seems to have disappeared into a cloud of bong smoke.

But the lack of creative thinking, and how the institutions we inhabit limit, and in some cases intentionally stifle, our ability to grow in a way that honors our abilities is something that should concern all of us.

Many of us cannot even imagine our own thinking, much less dream up novel ways of approching age old problems.

That is not to say there has not been progress but I feel like we might be missing an OVER-ARCHING METAPHOR FOR OUR TIME.

Perhaps we may need several to cover the necessary ground in our quest for what will bring us a sense of well being.

We need a meaningful way to describe and interact with our world that produces positive outcomes more often than it doesn't.

Furthermore, we should be the ones to imagine it.

Fuck disney's imagineers.......fuck cnn........

Let's dream up our own world, then we can start to make it a reality.

I hope we stop telling our children too many stories...except from the storybooks that were meant for them...

Wish we adults were still reading them too...
