all depends on location. in cities with lots of natural areas, i dont see a problem with camo. if you want to blend in, would you rather blend in with the sheeple or with the trees and dirt?

in these low probability-high impact scenario's, its though to make the right call but its good to at least think about it.

personally, under this kind of situation, i really doubt that you'll see many cops. they'll be falling back to secure their own infrastructure or going home to protect their own families.

you'll be hiding from the scum of the earth types that want to rap and pillage you, looking like billy bad ass in camo might be a good thing, better than looking like a lost and vulnerable sheep.

i would agree with getting thru police/military check points but if you are there you might just be heading for the fema camps. might be better off avoiding those too.

I'm going for an Elmo outfit... Don't reckon even the worst of the worst would have it in them to attack Elmo.

Just hope it doesn't happen around end of October... feel sorry for them poor souls walking home from their Halloween parties dressed as zombies... Ouch.

Re: To camo or not to camo....that is the question! So what will you be wearing wshtf or wrol?
Good subject OP - 5* and pin request for you.

My personal approach is that I really have no specific "wardrobe" that sits/ hangs in the closet in anticipation of being used "one day". In a continuation of our belief that "When preparedness is a lifestyle, you're more prepared for life", it is the attire I wear on a daily basis that I will be wearing should some major event come to pass, and here's why:

Take a true, honest inventory of where your time is mostly spent. Nearly half of the country's population is within larger cities, and the balance of the population still has regular ties to cities or towns. From this, it is justifiable to presume that should any event happen - you will not be already deep in the woods, rather in or close to an urban environment. That means you will have to travel through this environment in order to return to your home to retrieve family or gear, as well as traveling through this environment in order to retreat to the wilderness that everyone believes they will somehow magically live in (that's for another thread).

With this thought in mind, a person's number one concern should be "What if right now...", and consider how would you fit in should you need to walk home from work. Consider the environment in which you live and work, as well as the typical attire of the community.

Earth tones do not draw attention to you in a public setting, but will also be of great help should you need to conceal yourself. Brown, tan, green, olive, sage, - these are the colors that not only work the best in a remote environment, but will also allow you to blend in with the general public much better than being covered in multi-cam.

These earth tones can be mixed and matched, and be worn in most any environment without drawing attention to yourself - from a casual to a business casual setting. With some effort, one could assemble a similar wardrobe that also fits into the business professional setting. That is the goal - not to "look" like a high-speed/ low-drag uber operator, but to blend in with your environment.

The truest/ simplest definition of camouflage is "to blend in", however, we have to remember that it is environmentally dependent. No more than snow camo would be be very effective in Moab - one dressing "all camoed out" will stand out just as starkly in an urban setting. In addition; one clad in complete camo gear WILL have a more "official" appearance, and maybe that's what some are after, but you aren't concealing yourself - you're fooling yourself while drawing additional attention to yourself.

Once the palette has been addressed, the next in line of importance is comfort and utility. I personally prefer cargo type pants because they are loose fitting which allows for additional undergarments as necessary, but just as importantly is they allow for freedom of movement - and who doesn't appreciate more pockets? Shirts are similar - typically collared or button-down collared shirts with loose-enough cut to allow for freedom of movement, and wool or flannel green plaid shirt will be just as, if not more so, effective in the rural setting - if you make it there - as the hundreds of dollars wasted on the combat-ready camo attire that wouldn't help you blend in during your journey.

"Cotton Kills" Wool, wool blends, and synthetics are your friends. While cotton absorbs and retains moisture, synthetics will shed moisture, and wool retains ALL of it's insulating properties even when wet. This is especially important when considering socks and footwear, with the best combination here being a silk liner sock covered in a heavier wool sock in the colder weather.

Footwear- the best you can afford will be the best money you've spent on any gear you have. You only have two feet - take care of them, and another personal nod to KEEN (I have many different pairs of boots - my KEENs are my favorites). A solid lug sole, waterproof, and insulated as applicable. Leave the pull-on stuff on the shelf - they'll be an encumbrance when they get wet, you need to run, or you're in more technical terrain - lace-up is the only way to go, and laces also afford you the ability to adjust the fit as the density/ thickness of your socks change.

A thought to keep in mind when making your purchase; make sure you're test-fitting boots with the type/ construction of socks you'll typically be wearing. It would be a deep sinking feeling to find out those new digs didn't fit with the proper socks. Make sure you're wearing these new boots on a regular basis! You'll be sorry should you wait until the day it hits the fan to pull your shiny new footwear out of the box and lace them up.

Lastly - your actions and behavior.
Job 12:7 "But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee;"

Just as deer, bobcats, raccoons, and even bear and mountain lions can hide right here in town (none of which are wearing Multi-Cam/ Marpat/ ACU/ etc.), they are only seen when they venture out into the street - out of their element. My point here is not drawing attention to yourself is the greatest element of camouflage. This will be related not only to where you go or when you go there, but HOW you go. How you walk, talk, and conduct yourself when interacting with others are the greatest flags for standing out - or not.

Be vigilant, be watchful, but be invisible.

Always have the ability to blend in with the woods and urban environments. Not like you have to choose one over the other.

Re: To camo or not to camo....that is the question! So what will you be wearing wshtf or wrol?
Earth tones. most of my gear and rigging is now coyote brown.

Initially, I went the whole tacticool multicam route, but as I started taking shoot courses and doing 3gun stuff and actually USING my gear, I felt like a total asshat, so I went over to something more neutral.

Black... it matches everything, but it also stands out light a sore thumb against anything non-black.

So... coyote brown is my happy medium, and coyote brown cargo pants, with a OD fleece top doesn't look too bad.

If I didn't do coyote brown, I'd have done FDE or OD. Foliage is too bright for my neck of the woods unless its spring.

"TheTruthNeverLies" is correct here.

Complete darkness (black) is actually very rare in a natural environment - more likely found in a closed environment such as inside a building/ mine/ cave/ etc. where there are no external influences.
